Dowsn't matter to who? It seems like you're trying to justify racism against minorities because it happens to white people too sometimes.
I don't understand how that makes it ok.

face it. racism against whites doesn't matter. not saying that it justifies racism against minorities but its a fun little thing to point out.
don't believe me?

hmm someone uses a derogatory term for caucasians and nobody says boo. doesn't matter if it was on a message board or in real life - nobody cares.
start bringing up the 'N' word (i won't even spell it out here for fear of having my post deleted/account suspended) and people WILL take notice.

It does happen to white people, but isn't looked upon in the same way.
I'm still waiting for MatsNaslund to respond to Transplant's post.

So bring it up then. Say boo. Who's stopping you? And I think Rouge is a white guy too, but not sure.
Racism against whites doesn't get as much notice because it doesn't happen as much or usually as severe. But it certainly does happen sometimes, and if you're a victim/witness to it you should bring it up.

If it happens in equal ways, it should be looked at equally. For example the name calling etc.
The grocery store thing, isn't really a strong form of racism either way, so I think that's why it's not talked about much either way. It's not often that a minority complains about such a thing either, because we have much more serious racism claims to complain about.

trust me, i do. especially to people who get on their high horse about sexism and racism against other races. nobody cares. in fact, i've even been called a racist for taking offence to being called honky or cracker before.

Well that's pretty stupid of those people to call you that then. But I don't think most minorities would look at it that way. Racism breeds more racism. And If one person can't be sensitive to the racism suffered by another, then they shouldn't expect any sensitivity in return.

My "story" was only a response to what poster Mats naslund posted, both because it was pertinent and had just happened the day previous.
My point really is/was and continues to be, that i didnt feel it was racism(as i understand it to mean) at ll.
i didnt feel bad nor discriminated aginst, I was not called anything either, more like i was just ignored as a nuiscance or less than desirable to her.
Fine....couldnt care less nor could it bother me less. I see it al the time.

I realise that your post was a response to what Mats posted and I agree with your take on it. I see his story the same way too.
I you stated earlier, it's more of a comfort thing, then a discrimination thing.
For maybe the first time ever, I agree with you.
If I complain about racism, it's for things much more serious then a cashier not chatting with me.

No complaints, eh? You sure sound like you are complaining.
Don't you know minorities can't be racist towards white people. And if they do somehting that seems like it we can't complain because 500 years ago some white people did bad things to minorities. And although there are things in place to ensure that many jobs/university spots go to minorities over white males we get all the good jobs and minorities can't get anything.
Also, it is our fault that despite recieving money, lax university entrance requirements, free job training etc. It is our fault that many natives choose to do drugs and alcohol rather than better themselves. It shouldn't be the responsiblity of the community and their leaders that continually talk about how whites don't understand native culture and should butt out to set an example and encourage their people to better themselves and stop using the excuse of whites taking over their land and residental schools as reasons for their lot in life. Instead we should increase our funding to them and never say a thing when the money is obviously being spent in the wrong areas and doing nothing to help the native population improve their lives.
The interesting part about all this is after all that complaining, you still say you don't know anyone that got bumped from university and you yourself have a great job.
It's like complaining that they cancelled ALF, even though you never watched the show.

Wasn't complaining just pointing out that while matsnaslund was bemoaning the fate of Natives and how awful it is for them that there are many opportunities out there for them. Also that while people in this thread are complaining about whites getting all the jobs that there are situations in which they are at a disadvantage for jobs.

What situations are those exactly? I'm all ears.
Have you ever felt disadvantaged or denied a job because you are white? Do you know anyone who has experienced that?
I'm a lifelong white Canadian from a predominantly white part of town in a predominantly white, conservative city and nobody has ever told me that they didn't get a job, into school or felt disadvantaged economically due to their white skin.

In government jobs that require minorities it has occured. RCMP, Police etc. have targeted minorities.
And why does it have to have happened to me. I do not feel angry about it. I am just stating that there are certain organizations that specifically target minorities to try and raise the leve lin the workplace. I haven't commented on whether I think this is wrong or unfair just that it is the case.
Keep trying to make it as though I am angry about these things though if it makes you happy.

Sure thing. You are welcome to continue telling us all that your obvious cynicism and bitching about such policies is just casual commentary if it makes you happy.

Me neither, and I smoke and drink a lot.
I'm no expert on treaties and that kind of thing, but if it is the case that some people get cheap booze and cigarettes on the basis of some ancient legal document I don't begrudge them that.
Oddly enough, I personally benefit financially from contracts that were signed by ancestors of mine that died of old age long before I was born. Am I wrong to accept it because the piece of paper is old? Do you feel slighted that I accept that money?
