Not a fan of this obvious tanking from a viewership perspective, but whatever from a drafting perspective
Probably not going to watch this game out of principle because I can't stand watching hiller anymore. Makes me physically ill to see the flames completely crumble in front of my eyes every time he's in net

If the flames are trying to win the game, I am really not sure what the point of starting Hiller is. He has clearly not played well, you have two other goalies and doesn't sound like he has earned it in practice.
Some kind of respect move for a veteran? That seems like stretch. What could Hiller possible do to save his season? Hasn't he been given enough chances to do that?
I don't think this is some gigantic controversy, but there are at least some indications that Flames are not playing to win. Whatever.

Backup for Ortio? The Flames plan A better not be going into next season with Ortio as starter. Best case scenario for Ortio better be him penciled in as backup with some else coming in.

This is such a silly argument...
Even if you start the analysis the night Ramo got hurt, at which point the Flames were still in the playoff race and Ortio had shown nothing in the NHL this season, the starts are: 9 for Hiller and 12 for Ortio.
If you start the analysis the first time Ortio got to start after the injury, thus the first chance he got to show what his current form was, the starts are: 5 for Hiller and 12 for Ortio.
If you start the analysis the first time Ortio showed his game had returned to form, the starts are: 2 for Hiller and 11 for Ortio.
None of those lead to a conclusion that Hiller is the Flames current #1.

Do you see who we're playing against? TOR traded their best goalie at the deadline. They don't care about winning. Against teams like that I think we should be starting our worst goalie. They wanna go shamelessly for the draft pick all year? Then they deserve to see everybody's backup.

They aren't giving hiller the net out of respect, they're tanking
That's the only logical reason to ever start hiller for the flames again. Period

Why can't it be both at the same time? Doing a veteran a solid while maximizing our chances to lose against non-playoff teams on the road.

100% serious - when beazley has announced his name this year i get that feeling of dread in my stomach you got when your teacher sent you to the prinicpals office. Then when he lets in 4+ softies a game its like someones kicking my dog and i can't watch anymore
he makes the flames completely unwatchable

Why did they start Ortio 8 out of the last 9 games then?
Let me guess. Ortio played so well that he cost the team too many Matthews points, so Hartley decided he would stop that madness right in its tracks and that's why Hiller is starting? To purposely lose the game and drop one more game under .500? All this despite the fact that Hartley gets paid to WIN games? You're basically saying that Hartley got marching orders from above to purposely lose. Are you really comfortable with that conspiracy theory?

Probably because the only other goalie in the system who is capable of playing at an nhl level got hurt and fans would revolt if we had to sit through 30 games of a guy who can't see pucks farther out than the ringette line?
If you think winning is in the flames best interest long term at this point in the year, I've got a bridge in new york to sell you

But when Beesley doesn't announce his name and he comes in with 9 minutes left, he's unstoppable!

There would be no revolt and you know it. They could've split the duties 50/50 at least if they were actually interested in losing. The Flames aren't even good at tanking if they think this one game matters one iota in terms of draft positioning. Look at the percentages for the lottery and tell me the Flames are tanking for one game.

Please stop trying to debate this rationally.
When it comes to goalies, only emotionally charged hyperbole is acceptable.

Backstrom v the Wild is neat though.Give him a tune up game tonight, few more practices, then a chance against his old team.
Screw the Hiller talk, I don't even want to get into that, but playing Backstrom is classy. Even if he's likely no better than Hiller.

Jonas Hiller is 3 wins away from 200 in his NHL career. Here's hoping he gets an opportunity to get there.
Regardless of how tough a season he's had, he's still a Calgary Flame and I'm rooting for him.

True, although he may need to play 10 games to get those 3 wins.
