It's amazing how much impact one person can have on your career. A good boss and mentor can go such a long way that money and hours become far less important. And a bad one - yikes, almost nothing can keep people around when their boss doesn't work well with them.

yeah, I became a boss just over a year ago and and my department has entry level kids. Their first professional job. Very challenging to try and give the best support for them.

I actually took a course on coaching and mentoring and it was very helpful. The key was you had to identify where the person was in their development, and adjust your coaching style accordingly. You could have four different styles for four different people, because their skills and confidence are all at different levels. Would highly recommend!

As a CA, I would say it does. Bazinga!

My boss at my last place was a CMA, with much more experience than I have. He was a very smart guy. Once the merge talk started, I decided to start most of our meetings with, "I know you're a CMA, so I'll explain this slowly for you." He usually just countered with the fact his salary was double mine, and he worked half the hours I did. It was a good burn by him.
