On a side-note, the Flames have a good chance of having Wideman rebound a bit next season, and be able to trade him at the deadline.
|
I'm still hoping they can off-load him this summer. Unlike many I think he still has some value to the right team, especially if the Flames retain salary on him. Time will tell.
Hopefully next year the Flames aren't in a position to be sellers at the deadline, and I don't want Wideman taking minutes away from D-men like Wotherspoon, Jokipakka and Nakladal (if he re-signs).
Of course, I'm also hoping the Flames pull the trigger on bringing another stud top 4 d-man (Hamonic I'm looking at you) to solidify the top 4 as they start trending towards contender status.

I don't want the Flames to acquire Harmonic if we offload Wideman.
I'd rather the Flames use an elite top 4 to elevate a prospect into 2nd pairing icetime (the way Pronger elevated MAB).
I'd much prefer the $$$ we spend on Wideman and Harmonic to be invested in a top line RW.

There is no R in his name. Think of him as a ham, not as a musical instrument

I get that, and would be OK with it as long it's possible. I really like our top 3 D-core, and the way Jokipakka has looked so far, maybe it's possible Brodie could elevate him I guess. Hamilton is too young for that and not ready to elevate anyone just yet, and Gio primarily plays the left side. Maybe Gio could elevate Nakladal?
Giordano - Hamilton
Jokipakka - Brodie
or..
TJ Brodie - Hamilton
Giordano - Nakladal
Looks OK, if JJ or Nak can be that guy.
I still drool at a top 4 of:
TJ Brodie - Hamonic
Giordano - Hamilton
That's just a ridiculous good mix IMO, and Hamonic isn't cap heavy, he's on a sweetheart deal.
Anyways, sorry for the de-rail.

Less than an hour before tonight's game, so I guess we won't be getting a ruling today.
19 down, one to go.

So does news come out today? Not that it even matters at this point other than to make a stand and line Wideman's wallet lol

Wideman and the NHLPA would have filed a lawsuit that the Flames would have had no hope in hell of defending. Also, don't be foolish enough to think that your opinions on players match that of the organization.

I am thinking over the last couple of weeks as to how much did Wideman's suspension "helped" the Flames in the battle of the tanks? If he wasn't suspended, how many extra points would you think the Flames would have got?
Maybe the league is doing us a favour? But again it seems like the stars are aligning for the Leafs to get Austin Matthews...

I'm really beginning to think that an announcement will be made on Monday. At the least they could have attempted to give an explanation to the public as to why this particular process is taking so long. Lack of communication hurts their image more than anything in this situation.

Do you remember how bad he was? If anything, the NHL is hindering our tank. We've had to play competent, useful Nakladal, Wotherspoon and Kevin in his absence! Pfft.

I think you're overstating things. Wideman appeared to attack a ref, media got on it, he was suspended for 20 game. To the vast vast majority of people that was it. It's the NHLPA appealing the process afterall.
Outside of Calgary and a few hardcore hockey fans, the 'public' doesn't care. Some people are interested in the NHLPA's argument about concussions as it relates to a much bigger issue currently going on with the concussion lawsuit. But for most hockey fans, no one cares about a hockey player who attacked a ref and his union blaming it on concussion symptoms making him non-responsible for his actions.

I'm sure its not allowed in the CBA, but if this is overturned or reduced by the arbitrator you'd almost have to wonder if Wideman would have a case to sue the league for damaging future earning potential by missing games on an overturned suspension.

You are doing a very poor job of trying to backpeddle out of your own dumb comment, dissentowner.
Though it anyone is an expert at looking like a fool, it would be you.
