Exactly. All I was saying is that to me Captain seems like a guy who would enjoy some personality in his car, and if so, I think the Tucson is a poor choice. If he isn't, and cares more about A to B transportation and value in terms of stuff in the car, than the Hyundai is a totally viable option. They are the right choice for many people.

You're missing the point...price has nothing to do with it. My rusty Mazda is just as fun as anything I've owned (and Ive only owned used cars). It was cheap, reliable, and had personality. Personality does not come in 2 seater convertibles only. Btw, I paid less for my car than a new Tucson. Used-car depreciation for the win!

In that case, I'll be the first one to say that the Hyundai might be a good option. In the end, it's all about what suits you.

He meant "love" more in the sense that people tend to own their Toyota's for a long time and their Toyota's don't give them a lot of hassle or expense. If all you're looking for in a vehicle is something cheap that doesn't give you a lot of BS, then you'll love your Toyota, not in the same way one loves luxury or sports vehicles, but love nonetheless.

My matrix is crushing it in terms of economical engineering design, which is something I see a lot of beauty in, but most people don't really care about that sort of thing.

I personally drive a Sonata. Looked at the Tuscan before going with the car. I just didn't see the value of the Tuscan over the Sonata. But i've been more than happy with my car. The only complaint i've gotten is that the headrest is tilted forward and it can be a little uncomfortable. No major issues to date on it though and mine is a 2012.

Not everyone cares or worries about what personality their ride projects.
Classic UCB MO. Take an innocuous post, and feign offence. Once the person replies, pick apart the reply. Don't let them off the hook, this needs to be fought about. If nothing else, it could have been better worded. Hilarious that in this thread, you're on Table's ass for saying the exact same thing you were on about in the clothes thread a couple weeks ago. Dissing guys for not starching and creases. Even making sure that they felt like real bums for not ironing the shirts themselves. Creases and shoes!! If you're not showing off your clothes, what are you projecting????!!!???
Oh, but here, caring about the fun factor in your ride is a transgression. God forbid people give a crap about their car. As long as their suit is not black, and the shoes aren't brown, and the shirt has perfect creases.

Test drive a Ford CC. I drive a 06 Escape with 153,000 kms on it. Other than regular oil and fluid changes, a new set of brakes and tires at 100,000 ks, it's been problem free vehicle. Will probably buy another one after I drive my present one into the ground.

So question

I'm talking to the dealership. I'm going down to test drive a couple of cars. I'm willing to pre-approve.

Now he's asking for a $500.00 deposit.

Not all that interested in paying that, to hold a car if I'm willing to do the application.

Any thoughts.

When I bought my car and was doing test drives I just told them I wasn't looking at any paperwork. Just test driving.

If you're going to get a crossover, just look at a car. Cars are so much more fun to drive. Crossovers are huge, heavy, have unnecessarily high ground clearance, are pigs on gas, handle like crap, and don't even have that much interior room.

Right now, I keep having to sacrifice the cars I like for what works better as a family car (two kids). If you don't have young kids, get a GTI or something and then you'll be having fun everyday.
You. I like you.

There are a lot of imported Subaru Legacy B4's in western Canada, including many wagons. Can be had for cheap. Great for any type of driving. Maybe you should check one out sometime? The interior material/design quality is a bit lacking as you might expect but the car itself makes up for that ten times over. Very practical. Flies way under the radar. Pretty reliable as well if unmodified.
Found these with a quick search: http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Subaru/Le...&orup=19_15_24

SUVs and crossovers really need to go away forever. They serve literally no purpose except to protect you from other people in SUVs. (real terrain vehicles such as land cruisers do not count)

Yeah, no on the deposit. Tell him if someone comes and and pays full cash when you're waiting for your application that that's just a risk you're willing to take. He's just asking to try and keep to committed, and some will even make you sign an 'intent to purchase' form and won't refund it if you don't want the vehicle after all.

If they insist on this, oil prices aren't low enough yet.

I would just say I'm not interested then, send me an email if you change your mind on this requirement.

That sounds exactly like a certain Hyundia dealership that I dealt with in Calgary. Would not recomend them and would caution you to read their reviews before purchasing from them. And if all else fails, low ball the hell out of them

Went out and drove a few different vehicles today.

I actually liked the Tuscan just for feel. I got a good deal with no deposit and it fell into my price point.

I tried out some cars as well and went back to the cross over as well because it just felt more natural.

So I bought a car.

No deposit, I haggled them down by a bunch.

Now I just need to find a taker for my jeep. I'll probably just sell it for cash.
