Do you know the difference between an RFA and a UFA?

I think a 2nd and a 4th is a fair return for Hudler. I like him, but I think it was pretty clear we had no plans on resigning him for next year.

If you are a team in the West you are thinking about how you match up against the Kings, Hawks and Stars. So you are trying to get bigger and/or faster. Hudler does neither. So I suspect the marketin the west was non existant.
He fits better in the east, but even then - he isn't a guy that is hard to play against, so as teams are loading up, he isn't necesarily the type that everyone wants to add.
There are reasons why Ladd fetches so much more. He's the type of guy GMs love to add.

I ask the questions the fans demand to know. But only about the prospects and the salary cap.

Ducks are looking mighty dangerous too at the moment. I think they have to be considered as a problem matchup as well.

That building is a death pit.
What kind of return do you guys think Russell would get?

Hudler said he was just getting ready for his pre-game nap when he heard about the trade.
More from Hudler's conference call: "This is my first trade in my career — I’ve never got traded."
"I knew it was coming, so I tried to my prepare myself for it. But I don't think there's anything (that can prepare you for it) ... "
"I’m going to miss some guys and all the people working at the Dome and the atmosphere at the rink."
“Obviously the players — my friends — are talking about it. We have a TV in the room, too. Like, three or four so we can see all of the stuff (news).”

The 4th is better than a weak prospect that wastes a contract slot.
Would have almost preferred the years were swapped...by 2018 the 2nd could have been a 31st-40th type pick instead of a 55thish.

Also, this return (fair, but certainly not great) may be an indicator of his perceived value across the league this summer. Of course much will depend on how he does down the stretch and into the playoffs, but if his play doesn't pick up I think it might enhance our chance to sign him to a decent value contract (maybe even short term). He might be interested in returning to the place he had the most success.

I'm satisfied with the return. Whether BT drafts a player with that pick or flips it in a package, it's all kosher with me.
Wasn't a fan of Jiri this year anyways. It'll be interesting to see who becomes the new top line RWer though.

I'm curious if a hard shooter like Shinkaruk could find a home on the RW.

Wonder if they give Jones another look if there isn't any interest at the deadline. He had some success there earlier in the season.

I'm pondering this question again.
In my opinion Ladd >> Hudler >>> Schultz and here's why.
1st + Dano is approximately equal to two 2nds and two 4ths and therefore approximately equal to twice Hudler. Especially when you think where CHI's 1st is.
IMO 2nd + 4th > two 3rds and therefore Hudler is equal more than twice what Schultz got. Sometimes you'll see a team trade two 3rds for a 2nd but having the 4th rounder in there makes the 2nd + 4th more valuable than the two 3rds.
So Ladd gets approximately twice what Hudler gets and Hudler gets more than twice as much as Schultz IMO.

Just comparing Shinkaruk to Hudler, They're about the same size. I cannot see why one wouldn't try him out during this final stretch of the season.

considering sharks got Nick Spaling for a 2nd rounder, its hard to believe the current Lady Byng trophy winner was traded for little more than a player who had only 1 goal

I have seller's remorse.

Sure.
But if we had this conversation prior to the trades and asked: where does Hudler fit on a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is Schultz and 10 is Ladd, I think most people would say 8 or 9, not 5.
That's my point. Hudler's return shouldn't be halfway between Ladd and Schultz, it should be about 80% towards Ladd.
