Trade deadline is a time where we are going to divest some UFA's for picks prospects. It's not going to be satisfying to see good players go for nothing immediate unless you're a huge fan of picks/prospects. But it is an important step for a team that is going to miss the playoffs. We are adding assets that may be used in trades later. Hard to judge our team for next year until we see more of the offseason.

Flames getting a lot of flack for this trade and I don't really understand it.
To me, this is almost exactly fair value for Hudler. He's not the type of rental that nets you a first round pick. Outside of one season, he's been a 50 point player for his entire career.
Sometimes the NHL is very weird in terms of player value. I have little doubt Russell will fetch more than this even though I consider him to be a far less valuable player.
Hudler is a little underrated, but this is his value, and I think Treliving did well here.

More accurate to say I was hoping for more rather than expecting

Return was a lot closer to what Schultz got than what Ladd got.
Pretty sad

If the Flames walk away with a 1st, 2nd, 4th and a prospect for Russell and Hudler, that would be about right return wise from what I would have thought for those two. Not necessarily the players I would have expected getting which return.

I understand you typed this in a fit of rage, but at least try to get the players' names spelled right.

3rd Vs. 2nd and a 4th
Forward Vs. Dman
32 Vs. early 20s
The pick Ladd got could very well be literally one pick before the 2nd round

Not sure why people compare Hudler to Ladd. Ladd was the premiere guy available along with Eriksson (if he's actually available.) Hudler was in a secondary lower tier IMO with his size and skating not being ideal for the tighter checking and more physical playoffs. This in addition to him being pretty crappy for the first half this year.

Gonna miss him chirping at the other players, chirping at the refs and delivering Johnny Gaudreau pizza to make fun of his Pizza 73 gig.
Maybe he will sign with us next year at a good rate. Also, would be interesting to know if injuries were plaguing him this season. He's been outstanding on the first line the last couple weeks.
Thanks to Jiri and all the best.

And it's not like Hudler is without his intagibles as well. I was hoping for a 1st or a decent prospect in return for him to be honest.

Chicago had Ladd before and know exactly what he's bringing on and off the ice.
There's still some question as to how healthy Hudler is. Probably ok, but, given how terrible Hudler looked like around Christmas as far as fitness wise, its less certain if he can be up to his pace of a normal year, nevermind last season's anomaly, come the playoffs.
I think the Flames did ok here, given Hudler's first half of this season. I'm not 100% sure they should've done any deal, given the massive hole it leaves on a top line (and no second line to write home about), but with this path they've chosen, don't think you could ask for much more.

Maybe he's cryptically saying internally the management came to the decision they wouldn't be able to work Hudler into the team going forward after hearing the Hudler camp demands or something.

Wasn't expecting a first, but was hoping the 4th could have been another second, so a bit less than what I was expecting. Good luck Huds! Will be cheering for the Panthers in the playoffs!

It's a fair return in my opinion. Nothing to be upset about, that is for sure. A first seemed far-fetched. Maybe a second and a third? sure. But not enough of a difference to call it "crap" or "brutal".

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

If that's the case, Chicago kicks in a 3rd round pick as well.
Hudler returned what I had expected... Not what I had hoped.
