I agree, they are certainly doing the right things for it. But they are not a serious Cup contenders this season and, likely, not next season as well. Which means that Hudler is not their best answer. Hence; my surprise they went after him.

I could understand the anger (maybe a bit strong) if Hudler wasn't UFA after this season, but he is. So it was almost certainly this or lose him for nothing. And since we are not making the playoffs it seems kind of sillly to let him go for nothing. I think its a fair return. If we find out there were better offers then yes, anger is justified. .... IMO

provide some rationale for why Ladd brought back >>>>>>>>>>>>> than Hudler?
over the last 2 years Ladd
Hudler 131 games 41 goals 111 pts +16
Ladd 140 games 41 goals 96 pts -1
Does Ladd drive possession that much better or more than Hudler? Is a better teammate or leader?
Age does not come into it as Ladd is almost certainly not signing next year with teh Hawks.
Tell me exactly why Ladd worth so much more on the playoff rental market than Hudler?
Are ALL the Jets that much more valuable than the Flames? I don't think so.

The Jets and the Flames are very equivalent team for the last 2 years and Hudler and Ladd had significant and similar roles on the teams. Ladd takes stupid penalties and Hudler avoids all contact.
why 2 firsts for Ladd and a 2nd and 4th for Hudler?
Crap just Dano without the 2016 first is a far better addition that the Jets got for Ladd than getting Hudler out of town.

This is as much BS as your GRIT index.
Hudler was the physical presence last year on the top line. And this year when on it.
Id you didn't see him doing that your blind.

I think it's fair to be a little disappointed. I notice not one vote for more than expected. Hudler has likely been the best forward on the team over last 4 years and when he has played well, the team is more successful. So there is a hole with him gone. If that is what your top line winger can fetch in a trade, I think that tells you how far this team has to go still.

People always say this, but I don't believe there's any evidence to support the idea that teams are willing to give up a bigger return to save some money, especially if the team isn't tight against the cap.

Andrew Ladd is a better player than Jiri Hudler is. There's your rationale.

It might surprise you to learn that they have a 2-0-1 record against Washington this year, which is pretty incredible considering that Washington has all of 11 losses all year long and has dominated the entire league.
IMO, the Panthers are absolutely a cup contender in that they have a very good shot of making it to the cup final. Once you're there, it's all about who's healthier and who's playing better at that time.
Also, why are they not a cup contender next season either? That's the part that didn't make much sense to me.

It's the right decision to trade him. He's not in the long term plans and would have walked on July 1st as the Flames can't nor should pay him what he's asking for.
Hudler is an absolute class act and I am sad to see him go but again, it's the right choice.
Good luck in Florida Jiri.

A second and a fourth is much better than the Cammalleri return!

that's why I love polls, certainly a higher disappointed index than I would have expected.
Just seemed like there was more worry that a 2nd might turn into a third than there was a 2nd might turn into a first excitement through the week.
Add in the Francis and Shannon saying a 3rd, thought 2nd + of any kind would have people pretty happy.

Sad to see him go. I really liked him as a player and a human being, and he was a great mentor for our young guys. But this was a necessary trade, and I think the return is fair. I wish him the best of luck in Florida. Bye Jiri!

I wanted a first but clearly that wasn't in the cards. A second and fourth is alright considering the contract situation and rumored demands to sign next contract. It's better than the Cammalleri outcome...

Good luck Hudler!
I wound myself up thinking he would net a better return but meh. I can ive with it. I figure that 2nd round pick is good ammo to shoot for a goalie at some point. Or they can tke a flyer on a Benson or a Sean Day or Yegor Korshkov with the extra 2nd.

Yeah, after I heard the 3rd round pick rumors I was worried, so this looks decent. All about perspective I suppose. Lol, I guess I'm the only fan happy with this.

Hasn't American politics taught you anything? Moderates don't vote anymore.
