It's not just that, it's the overall package. I would put money on it. He's also retweeted some things related to autism orgs on twitter.

PHI had guys like Nurse, Ristolainen, Morin all ahead of Monahan too (based on a behind the scenes draft video). People have all sorts of different opinions on prospects. I don't think this undermines Lou's credibility at all. Especially since it was just for a mock draft show.
As much as Flames fans seem to hate on Horvat I think he's going to end up as a fantastic player and I'm not sure the gap between him and Monahan is going to end up as big as Flames fans think it will in a couple years. Hate having to defend Horvat but he seems criminally underrated around here at times. Monahan obviously more of an impact player early on but I think the gap will close somewhat.
Blah. Hate having to defend Canucks. We'd take Horvat on our team any time though, kid is gonna be a player.

Some people were saying they'd wouldn't trade Jankowski for Horvat. That baffled me. Horvat is a proven solid young centre. Jankowski is not. Now you can argue that maybe he will be better, but Horvat has proven what his floor is, and his ceiling is quite high IMO.

The coaches definitely do not agree with the advanced stats but we already knew that didn't we.
Like I posted in another thread I have a theory that Russell has been banged up a lot of this year and that it has affected his play a bit. He's a warrior and a leader. Definitely would love him back but I think 3.5 million is what we'd need him to make and he should be able to easily best that on the open market this summer.

Well what is going to say?
"We like the guy but man it's a complete circus when he's on the ice!"
He's great in the room. He stepped up for sure last year, no doubt about it. All I'm saying is the numbers can't really lie, too many shots against when he's on the ice and to an extent where he sticks out on his team year after year.

The fact that this thread exists means it was successful for the station. No said anything offensive.
What you want to avoid is situations where one or both guys are obviously faking their opinions and the ranting becomes some kind of ratings draw. You see this a ton in the US with the Skip Bayless's of the world.

Loubo can be annoying but Steinberg is the worst. His voice when he gets irritated sounds like a 12 year old complaining to his mom, he sounds so juvenile when his voice jumps up 2 octaves and he starts in like that I just turn it off.
The worst is when he gets mad at callers like that, no they don't know everything, they're drunken fans not paid pros. He needs to cut the snivelly tone when he gets mad. I give it the rating of instant radio station change.

Horvat's been pretty bad this year. He's a poor man's Sean Monahan.

listening to it now, Loubardias starting off so personal emotionally vested in Russel before the debate even starts.

Can heart and soul players also be mediocre players? Loubo doesn't seem to think so

Come on. Lets not get into the merits of Steinberg. Anyone can start up an argument on the air. At the very least, they should keep PS away from doing interviews.

Gelinas didn't have to weigh in at all, they didn't press him about it, he brought it up himself out of nowhere.
I dunno the idea that some stats tell us more about a player then coaches who've worked with the guy for a couple years? That's questionable. I put a lot more stock into what our coaches think about players then what advanced stats say about anybody.

What kind of expectations do people have of kids these days? He wasn't the 1st overall pick.
He's 20 years old, playing top two lines on an NHL team, has double digit goals. Normally that kind of impact from a 20 year old is something to be excited about. Bad year? He's 20 years old! He made the NHL! He's producing! He hasn't peaked, gonna be a great player in this league for many years. Head shaker.

Bob definitely does great interviews (too bad most are about baseball), and should be a someone for a guy like Steinberg to look up to. He should also listen to Rob Kerr, who I think does great interviews that don't feel scripted or obvious. I think Steinberg has come a long way over the years, but his interviews still leave something to be desired.
Yesterday though, Loubardias came across as a man-child. He takes opinions way too seriously, and can sound like someones dad or uncle talking about a loved one. I like the guy in general, but there is very little objectivity there. I prefer the Pat and Rob conversations more...both of them can be a bit more pragmatic.

this is terrible radio. It is not a debate, it turned into a frigin pissing contest. I actually felt loubardias wasn't rationalizing anything with logic.
i'd consider myself on the opposing side of analytics/advanced stats, yet his staunch reaction in the discussion was ridiculous.
He took issue when steinberg states russel is over his head being slot in as a 2nd pair dman, saying he's a really good 2nd pair dman, and that there is no better option today for the flames. Yet, steinberg later goes back to the question and asks well would russel be a 2nd pair dman on a playoff/stanley cup team, to which loubardias says no. the 'debate' basically fell apart completely for me there, as it sort of proved whatever the hell stance steinberg was pushing.

I like Steinberg. Its been nice to see him grow and get better over the years since he joined 960. He is really entertaining.
Loubardias makes me turn the dial. He is tolerable in small doses and nothing more. He really sounded like an amateur here, not like the veteran guy he describes himself as in the promo with Steinberg.

Wow, I don't mind Loubardias general, but that was brutal. Not a shred of professionalism in that exchange. "F everyone else, Russell is a great human being, that means he's a good hockey player, no one's opinion matters but mine".
Hockey players are paid for results, deal with it Loubo.

You are comparing him to Monahan saying they'll be close in the end. They are a long way from being close at this point.

Agreed. Everyone understands that "these are people, they care" blah blah blah. Do your job and analyze the sport as a member of the media, not as someone who wants to be BFF with the players. Totally ridiculous.
I've actually noticed this a lot in hockey -- media guys are way too personal with the players and teams and don't ask the real questions that fans are thinking about.
