Brodie wasn't on the ice. It was one defenceman and Colborne. Brodie and Gio played the first pp unit and then he came on.

I would hate to see us outside of the top 5 in the draft. Keep the losses entertaining, boys!

I agree - keep it close, but don't prevail. If they play like tonight at the Saddledome, maybe we will see the same thing we saw in 2014 where the crowd was giving them a standing ovation even if they lost!

Joe is out there to stand in front of the net for the 6 on 5...not sure how many high end players some of you think the Flames have

Gotcha, thought you were saying "why did Hartley scratch Ferland?"
Not sure I understand why you're questioning Hartley for almost (but not actually) scratching him then. Seems that he agreed with you, and probably why he played Bollig (unfortunately since I don't think he makes a difference against meaner teams).

Don't back pedal now you said the only reason Colborne was playing the point was because a d-man pinched.
There were four forwards on the ice. Jones, Backlund, Bennett, and Colborne. Nakladal and Colborne were playing the point the entire time even after the whistle.
|
No, you asked who was on with Nakladal and I said Brodie. I never actually said who pinched (but it was Nakladl, who played the right side).

AC - the pre game report had ferland scratched.
Gio for pm- I'll take your word for it. I thought after the timeout we had our top guys + Joe
And I agree with Itse 100%. - it is not bashing on Joe. It's not understanding some of the positions he is put in. He is a very serviceable 3rd liner with potential of 2nd if he bulked up and played with a edge but is often given roles that just don't make sense to me.

I'm not going to rant and rave about how these thread titles embarrass CP to the media like some old loon... but they are pretty annoying to read. You should never start a thread by asking yourself "What would Gene Principe do?"

Again, it is my understanding that something came up with Stajan preventing him from playing which is why ferland was drawn in but I may be wrong.

You'd still be wrong. Brodie was on with Gio and Nakladal was on with Colborne. Why can't you just be a man and admit you were wrong?

I doubt he will ever get better than he is now. He's had enough time, obviously. I'm not sure he need to bulk up because he seems to do fine physically when he decides to play that way - it just doesn't happen enough. Remember him manhandling Horvat in the POs? He can do it when he applies himself. He's a frustrating player all right. But he wasn't the issue tonight, or this year for that matter.

Oh, no I don't think so.

Matt Stajan is the odd man out in LA. Ferland in as Bob Hartley tells me he had a change of heart this afternoon

Still should have been a no brainer to have Ferland in the lineup and not have been a last minute change of heart imo

I already said I'm sure you are right because you are so certain. But then again, I didn't say it was Brodie who pinched.
Anyway, if that was the line, it was odd, certainly. But for some reason, Colborne, playing the point, was also in front of the net. Why do you suppose that happened?

Yeah I agree. I think Bennett's transition to centre (and how he's been handling it) is a big reason we cut ties with Granlund. It might also be a big reason why Stajan suddenly looks more expendable when we can use Jooris as the 4th line C.

So no trade if you believe Hartley.

Looks like Hartley changed his mind and decided to play Ferland instead of Stajan as a coach's decision.

I think Ferland thus far is one of those guys who has needed a benching to remind him to put out the effort he needs to be effective. To his credit he has responded fairly well each time. Hopefully he grows out the inconsistency issue.
Frankly, I'd have had him over Bollig though. I think they are redundant and Ferland's toolbox is so much bigger.

No idea as it was Jones who was in front of the net pretty much the entire time he was on the pp. Colborne and Nakladal were the ones responsible to go retrieve the puck and who started on the point after the whistle. You'd have to ask Colborne why he went to the front of the net when there were 4 forwards on the ice and no one covering for him.
Either way done with this subject but Colborne was definitely playing the point and not just covering for a pinching d-man which is a very strange decision by Hartley.
