It was actually Treliving who signed him. I didn't have a problem with it as the Flames were/are in a rebuild and didn't need a goalie that could take them to the Cup. And he did do what they asked him to last season. This season, not so much.

I have to give him credit...in the third period, after the ice tilted, the only time my excitement level went up was when he was kicking rebounds directly into the slot or giving the puck to Kessler.....brutal goaltender.

Something I found kind of funny and a little shocking.
Hiller is ranked 19th best NHL save percentage of ALL TIME with a career .915 after his 400th game last night.
He is also ranked 48th in the history of the NHL with a career 2.53 GAA.
I bet no one would have guessed those numbers.
It's pretty obvious he has zero confidence right now.

The Hiller signing has Burke's hands all over it. Treliving was barely two months into the job when that signing was made, Burke would have handled the majority of that offseason's transactions.

Part of that is about how drastically the scoring has changed over the history of the NHL. Part of that is about how much better goaltending is now. Hiller would probably be an all star in the 80's lol.

It's hard to watch someone's career fall apart like this. I doubt anyone gives him a shot next year.
... Then again he's making 4.5 million dollars to play like this. I take back my sympathy.

So what are you implying here, T w@T? That you have been attempting to give money to your lady friends and, in return, you expect them spend time on their knees all night? So far, you've been rebuffed, so you're now planning on showing them Hiller as an example of the serious coin they can make if they accept your offer? Good luck with that.
Funny joke, you're either a John or a pimp. Good one hurr hurr.

You're basing that purely on assumption. Just because he was he was only a couple months into a job doesn't mean he would let Burke do his job for him. Hiller and Miller were probably the two top free agent goalies in 2014 so he would have been targeted regardless.

The worst 10 qualified goalies in terms of save percentage are as follows:
Niemi/Lethonen: 0.907
Rinne: 905
Howard: 903
Condon: 902
Nilsson: 901
Lack: 901
Smith: 901
Bernier: 895
Lindback: 894
Hiller: 889
The worst 10 qualified goalies in terms of GAA are as follows:
Talbot 2.72
Anderson 2.76
Hutchinson 2.88
Lehtonen 2.89
Howard 2.92
Smith 3.06
Lindback 3.11
Nilsson 3.14
Bernier 3.17
Hiller 3.20
Hiller is 9-9-2 in 22 games.
Of his 9 losses, 6 have been against bottom tier teams including: Arizona, Edmonton (x2), Carolina, New Jersey, and Ottawa.
Of his 9 wins, 5 are against bottom tier teams including: Toronto, Vancouver (x3), Buffalo.
So, is Hiller the worst goalie in the league? Discuss...
|
So how about this Goalie who in 2013-14:
32 games 11-17-2 3.36 GA .894 sv %
This year just signed a big $ after being a Vezina finalist in 2015.
Have to consider if the 2nd highest paid defense corps in the NHL is the worst defensively in the league?

Hiller spends so much time on his knees it reminds me of Tim Conway's Dorf on Golf!

Hiller makes me miss Retro Beer-o. 5-8-0 2.41 gaa, 0.922 sv% this year. What did we get with that 2nd rounder again?

No. Hiller just can't do it anymore.

Not comparable. At all.
Dubnyk is 29, Hiller is 34.
Dubnyk's worst season was playing for the goalie graveyard that is the Oilers. The other Oiler goalies that year were Scrivens (3.01/.916) and Bryz (3.01/.908). All of them sucked as the result of a horrible team.
Hiller's worst season, the other main guy managed to put up (2.63/.909). If you discount the first few weeks when everyone was terrible, Hiller's stats are essentially unchanged but Ramo is <2.30 and >.920 so you can't blame Hiller as the result of a crappy team.
Dubnyk has great reflex's for a big guy and tracks the puck well. Hiller flops to his knees and hopes the puck manages to hit him.
There is no Dubnyk-esque resurgence coming to Hiller. I'd bet my house on it.

I don't blames Treliving at all. Hiller was a reasonable veteran goalie at the time. Even last year he was at least on par with Ramo (statistical better). He's just fallen off a cliff this year.

I think he really took the 3 goalie thing to heart in a bad way. They all did. It didn't elevate any of their games, just made them all uncomfortable. Goalies are weird and that's all on Brad for mismanaging that and not figuring it out before game 1 this year.

9 seasons in the NHL, 400 games, $25-30M earned, has played in the olympics and in an NHL all-star game... While it probably sucks now, Hillers had a pretty good career.
