Enjoy Granlund Canuck fans. Great 2 way player that will do well in Van. Glad to see Granlund will finally get ice time however sad that he will never win a Stanley Cup now

I don't really know how to feel about this, beyond the fact that Canucks fans hate it. So right now I like it.
Some gems from Draft Day 2013:
Vancouver:
From CP:
I doubt there's ever been a player who's had the Flames fan base turn on them so quickly, so fast, twice.
June 30, 2013 2:17 pm: WE WANT SHINKARUK!!
June 30, 2013 2:29 pm: EFF YOU SHINKARUK!! I hope you fail in heck forever!
February 22, 2016 2:51 pm: Shinkaruk? I hate that guy, lazy, no good, gonna be a bust, Canuck loser poop-face.
February 22, 2016 2:52 pm: Wait, what? For real? Is that confirmed? Woah...
February 22, 2016 2:53 pm: Top 20 scorer in the AHL! Hope he scores 1000 points in the league for us LOLZORS VANCOUVER!!!

As a Granlund fan this was a tough to read. I always thought he was more suited to the wing and that is where the Flames should have moved him. But it never happened and team depth was catching up to him. He could have been that finisher on the wing, but it sounds like he fought it and couldn't adapt to a position the Flames really needed. A little bit of a sad day to see Markus head to Vancouver.
Getting Shinkaruk back is interesting. Very much like Baertschi, but without the concussion problems. He is a scorer and has a great shot. He has a very high compete level, which is lacking at times on this team. The only knock on him is his size. How many small wingers can this team have? I guess it doesn't matter if they play hard and score a lot. We'll see how this plays out. I'm not going to anoint Shinkaruk as the answer to the Flames problems on the wing, but he is an intriguing piece to pick up for diminishing returns. Still wondering why a LW when we are so lacking on the RW?

I love how the Canucks decided they wanted a defenseman in return, but then lost patience and flipped him for a center. Such a Benning-esque thing to do.

There definitely some posters who went after him all the time since the draft which does make it funny that he's here now.

Okay, I will . He will pair nicely with Bennet and Poirier and with Mony and Jonny, most anyone can fit with. things looking good.

I remember when there was talk around here about wanting Benning for the Flames GM before we got Tree. Yeesh, dodged a bullet there.

I wonder who would win a poll where rival fan bases were voting between Sven+Granlund vs Shinkaruk+Andersen?
Any CP HFers wanna fire that one up on the other board?

Yikes that would have been a nightmare. Looking at the cup winning regime of 2011 you have Chiarelli, Benning, and Sweeny all holding down GM jobs with Weisbroad an AGM (or whateve he is in Vancouver)
I really feel like Benning is the Canucks version of Feaster. Trying to rebuild and still make the playoffs whole being viewed by rival fanbase as the worst GM in the league

i think there's another shoe to drop in vancouver.
They move out one of, if not their top prospect, who happens to be a LW.
What's one thing the nucks have done in the past year or so, it's pick up other team's troubled prospect situations.
My money is on droin becoming a canuck this week.

I think Granlund could project to having a Frolik-like career, a solid 2 way pro who can play on your 2nd or 3rd line, good at the PK or PP.
I don't really buy the argument that he can't play the wing, they didn't try it out for very long, and not at all in the NHL (that I can recall)
Shinkaruk may have a higher ceiling, but he also has a lower floor.
I think it was worth the gamble in the end because we need more bonafide top 6 players, but I am sad to see Granlund go.
Unlike most posters I will continue to wish success for both him and Baertschi, even if I hope their team loses every game they play.

Dude, they are two separate trades made under very different circumstances.
What you want is about as useful as asking to compare Granlund + Reinhart + Bozek for Shinkaruk and a 3rd round pick.

It is 2 rival teams making back to back deadline swaps that include once highly touted prospects. I like what the Flames got out of both deals and according to Canuck fans they are really liking Sven. Would be interested to see what other fan bases think. I don't post on HF but know many on here do

I liked Granlund more than some here. He's got a decent toolbox so he's a guy that I could see as a solid utility player. That said there's nothing outstanding about him and this otganization has an abundance of bottom 6 type forwards so unless they move Backlund there's really no spot for him next season. Now the organization can rinse and repeat with Shinkaruk and hopefully he has more top 6 potential for this organization.
