Oh god, are you going to scold me for wanting to keep Jankowski? Please don't I don't think I can take it.
I know Horvat is better right now. But I believe he won't be better than Janko later. And for contract staggering, it'd be poor asset management to have Horvat being the odd man out when it comes time to re-sign Bennett or any other RFA that isn't Hovat in that particular off-season.

I dunno I think stats wise we won this
But if I recall there was some major character issues Weisbrod had with Shinkaruk made him off the radar for us back then
Wish they would have tried Granlund at wing first. All his goals this season have come from the left side and I think most on this site projected him as a winger. I would have even liked to see what he could have done on the right side with Monahan and Gaudreau.
Treliving said Granlund wasn't comfortable on the wing in the AHL and didn't see it as a long term fit.
Better off getting higher upside than trying to make a square peg fit into a round hole. Unless a centre can displace Monahan, Bennett or Backlund or is effective on the wing, there's no room in Calgary.

This Reddit comment about the trade made me chuckle:
Quote:
ring ring
Benning: Jim Benning.
Treliving: Hey Jim, it's Brad. Do you want to make a trade?
Benning: Jim Benning..?
Treviling: I'm thinking Granlund for Shinkaruk?
Benning: Jim! Benning!
Treliving: Is that a yes? Should I send you the papers?
Benning: Jim Benning! Jim Benning!
Treliving: OK Jim, bye Jim.

If Weisbrod is just reading him wrong, this could turn into more of a coup for the Flames down the road.

I don't think he has the size or is mean enough. I think if your building a playoff team you need guys that can play a certain type of game. Scoring goals is fine and he could have clicked on the top line but I think we need a guy with skill, some size and sandpaper to complement the top line.
Although they have different skill sets it seems to me they are about equal in terms of NHL value projections.

Yeah? Third liner, -30 Horvat? Who doesn't want that on their team.
As opposed to a 6'4 Center who is praised for amazing hands and an outstanding two-way game. I'd like to give that dude a chance.
If you think Horvat will always be a 3rd liner then you probably aren't watching him closely enough. He's a damn good young player. Anyways that discussion is silly, they aren't trading Horvat.
Meh, both guys are about the same if you compare their numbers at the same age. Guess Shinkaruk was was a 1st rounder so he's expected to do better things. Change of scenery type of deal?
The Canuck fans who hate this trade obviously think Granlund is just living off his brother and isn't a good hockey player.
Granlund is a solid player and will slide right into their lineup and not look out of place.
Personally I'm not a fan on the trade as a Flames fan but not too upset as it is a pretty minor deal and Granlund as a center would have been very hard going forward when we have Monahan, Backlund, and Bennett.
