Not one of his best jokes, but I think he is referencing his former employer "Grantland" getting shut down. Granlund/Grantland, lame.

Took me a second but it has to do with Grantland, which is the ESPN website he worked for that was shut down

Flames have enough depth at Center to let Granlund go and will have holes at LW when Jiri gets dealt.
Shinkaruk i think will have more of a offensive prowness long term than Granlund.
Granlund is what he is a 3rd line player on a team with a depth.
Shinkaruk will be a 2nd line player when he cracks the Flames next year.

As the two above me have correctly stated, it's a reference to Grantland, his former site. He's since moved on to work for Sportsnet, THN, and Vice Sports simultaneously.

Initial reactions on here are always hilarious.

What was Granlund going to become for us though? A lesser Backlund? We already have an actual Backlund.

Seems like a lateral, change of scenery sparking the player type of trade.

Seriously hilarious.

Hope Shinkaruk becomes a player, some payback for the Baertschi move.
There's no payback for Baertschi. He was a spoiled child in Calgary, and ran himself out of town. If he has matured in Vancouver, I suspect it comes from the fact that he was being told the same things early this season in Canuckland as he was here, and might have finally clued in to the fact that he has to work for it at this level. If that makes him a better player, good for him, but it was never going to happen here.

Thinking about this more this is actually a brilliant trade, with Jankowskis arrival next year there's be absolutely no room for Granlund if the team needed to send him down after camp.

Centers for Stockton next season:

Jankowski
Grant
Hamilton
Shore (maybe)

I've read all 18 pages of this thread and don't recall many people if anybody pencilling him in. So yeah maybe you're overreacting a tad?

Who cares about what device you posted that from?

The trade is pretty obvious from our perspective. We're loaded at centre, and Granlund, honestly, tops out as a 3C. Move from position of strength to fill one of weakness. If Shinkaruk busts, not much losts. If he turns into a serviceable winger, this is a win for us.

I simply don't understand it from Vancouver's perspective though. About the only thing Granlund has going for him is that he is a serviceable NHLer. He's not going to make the Canucks appreciably better now or in the future. No more than he would have here.

Not to mention, I'll take Anderson over Baertschi 7 days a week and twice on Sunday.

Super odd comment that there needs to be payback for that Sven trade.

Bob McKenzie
@TSNBobMcKenzie Funny how CGY/VAN have become trading partners (Baertschi and Shinkaruk/Granlund). Interesting common denominator? John Weisbrod perhaps?

Bob McKenzie
@TSNBobMcKenzie Weisbrod was CGY AGM when Baertschi/Granlund were there and Shinkaruk passed over by CGY to draft Emile Poirier. Weisbrod now VAN AGM.

Being in Victoria, I have a lot of friends that are Canuck fans. My FB page is littered with hate for this trade.

Wish they would have tried Granlund at wing first. All his goals this season have come from the left side and I think most on this site projected him as a winger. I would have even liked to see what he could have done on the right side with Monahan and Gaudreau.
