I'm holding my breath on this. We still don't know how Shinkadink will do the NHL... Granlund could turn out to be a decent bottom liner in the NHL.

If nothing else, this buys the Flames another two years of development time. Granlund's a bubble player who will require waivers next season, and wasn't a lock to make the Flames out of camp next season.
Shinkaruk is in the same situation as Poirier, where he's already in his second year in the AHL, but because of his age when he signed his ELC, is still waiver-exempt for two more seasons.

Big stretch, but lots of people are relating Shinkaruk to a Patrick Kane-esque guy.

0.87 ppg in the AHL is nothing to sneeze at. Still got a lot of potential to be a good NHLer. Hope a homecoming furthers his career.

Ya, they're going nuts on the Canucks message board. They really don't like this trade. One poster even said they still might be a high draft pick coming our way. lol

While people grow, and we should hold our judgment of Shinkaruk until we see him in the system, the first half your sentence is not necessarily true.
Especially when you're talking about a player that's only a few years removed from living in this city, it's actually pretty likely that at least a few people on here know Shinkaruk personally.

I'm one of those people that wanted him at the draft, I'd like to see where he falls on our depth chart now. Homerun trade IMO.

Wow.
I like Granlund, but he kind of tops out as a fringe 2nd liner and will likely settle in as a bottom 6. Shinkaruk may bust still, but his potential is a lot higher. I would roll the dice on this one everyday.

Don't mind it because we need wingers more than centers at this point, and he is 18 months younger. Plus size is a wash so we aren't really getting any smaller. Wonder if this means we move Bennett to center now.
|
Bennett has been playing center for the past 2-3 games anyways.

Well, Granlund had a 0.85 ppg in the AHL playing a similar number of games. Pretty even deal.

If things work out for these wingers, a Shinkaruk, Bennett, Poirier line is going to cause teams to lose their ####. That's could be the most annoying, can opening, score goals in your face Flames line in a long while.
