Yeah, I'm reading some of it now.
I liked Granlund but I'll have to invest more time into Shinkaruk and figure out how this helps us.

Makes sense to me. Treliving wanting his guys, not attached to the old regime's guys. And when part of the old regime is right near by...
Don't know much about Shinkaruk, but wasn't much of a Granlund fan. Don't know how he seemed to get so much love from some here.

I'm not super surprised. What in Granlund's game has him suited to the wing?
He's not big, not physical, not super speedy. Wingers have to do a lot of work near the boards so ideally you're either big and strong and can win board battles or you're crazy speedy and shifty (ala Gaudreau) and beat players that way. Granlund doesn't have the size/strength/physicality to regularly win board battles nor does he have breakaway speed. He's a natural centre.
I dunno, he seems like a centre to me. A poor man's Backlund at the moment.

I don't care for Shinkaruk's character.. but I understand trading Granlund. He was a tweener who just couldn't quite seem to keep it going at the NHL level as a top-6. Plus it's hard to see how he fits anywhere ahead of Monahan, Bennett or Backlund as a centre.

I don't pay as close attention to draft picks as some. Is the only bummer about this guy that he was quoted as saying he'd make the Flames regret they didn't draft him? If that's it, I'd be happy to hear that. I would want a guy ticked off that he wasn't taken as high as he wanted to be.

I don't know what to think of this trade...
I don't think Granlund has much upside.
Shinkaruk definitely has more, but he seems... how to put it... very unlikable.
Would have preferred trading Granlund for a RW prospect. But I guess we won the trade?
