Bernier hasn't forgotten how to get hit by pucks, he just can't play in Toronto anymore. It's not an easy thing to do, nobody's been good at it since Ed Belfour.

Not sure Calgary would have to add in that one. Hiller expires and is off the books, and they get more space for next season. With Bernier value low I think Toronto may be pitching in the 5th.

I can see that happening. I think it's a no lose scenario for the Flames to acquire Bernier at this point - even in the race for Auston Matthews, I don't want Hartley choosing between Hiller and Ortio for the next 25 nights.

I think one of the reasons why Bernier isn't a Flame is that they may be trying to ship one of our anchors (Smid/Raymond) to them. I could similarly see a trade between us and Chicago for Bickell if they toss us a prospect or decent pick (3rd or 4th)

When is the last time Drouin played a game? His value must be dropping fast.

Any chance of us getting Hellberg out of Hartford? He is slaying it on a mediocre/bad Wolfpack.

I think you might be able to get the Rangers to let one of Shestyorkin or Hellberg walk.

Getting Bernier while giving up no assets in intriguing. Do the Leafs really need to shed salary for next year though? Seems like they have done much of that already and should have lots of room.
Bernier would work if BT is also able to acquire a seasoned prospect type goalie to go with him.

I think the "anchor" is Wideman. It's a hunch really. The leafs are going to have a crap ton of cap room and Polak is off the books for next year.
They have Robidas, Gardiner, Hunwick and Cowen locked in for their D corps next year with Reilly, Corrado and Marincin as RFA's needing to be re-signed.
They Need Wideman IMO to anchor a PP. They need his cap hit for the year.

Why do they 'need' him? Thats silly, no team needs Dennis Wideman. I guarantee there will be a D available on a pro tryout that will be as good as Wideman. If they want to hit the cap floor they will sign a usefull UFA or two.

Eklund reporting Trouba for Hamonic rumor. Regardless of it being Eklund I really think this trade happens at some point.

Islanders GM, Snow already asked for this from the Jets and they said no.

Thinking this might happen..
To CHI: Jiri Hudler
To CGY: Marko Dano + 3rd Round Pick
And for Russell..
To NYR: Kris Russell
To CGY: Nick Jensen + 2nd Round Pick
Add? or Subtract?... aaaand go!

Trouba for hamonic won't go because trouba is apperently asking for a big contract. The isles won't want to take someone who's goin to have a big contract coming back IMO

1.) It isn't as much 'needing' him as it is 'finding a fit' for him.
2.) There are never any guarantees, least of which are PTOs. Ryan Wilson and Douglas Murray didn't make it with us and they had NHL experience.
3.) The defenceman UFA pool this year is extremely weak. If you're a GM, how much term are you willing to offer these guys? Yandle and Boyle will likely want to stay in New York, and the list pretty much drops off a cliff after that with Hamhuis and Russell. If hitting the cap floor was a concern, I'd personally feel much safer about a guy on an expiring 1 year deal than signing a UFA to term and big $.

I think you target three other players from the Rangers and maybe scrub the pick. Magnus Hellberg, Igor Shestyorkin or Kevin Hayes
I'm not 100% sold on the idea that Mark Dano is a trade asset for the Hawks. Ryan Hartman might be a better target. .

Well, putting it nicely... if you're going to put out trade proposals that don't make sense to anyone but you, it's probably best to at least include an explanation as well. Throwing in a wildly open-ended "add/subtract" doesn't really help either.
