The Marlies are playing the Penguins though.

With Kunitz still on the top line and currently Kuhnhackl and Rust playing wings on the third, Hudler would make a reasonable target for the currently 1st place Wildcard team.

Maybe scouting Matt Murray. He could be one of the best goalies not in the NHL right now.

Darren Haynes ‎@DarrenWHaynes Note that the Blackhawks and Stars are both particularly interested in this Flames-Canucks game. Chicago with three scouts here, Dallas two.

Eddie olczyk was on tsn 1040 saying Blackhawks looking for top six forward more so than vet d. Lots of talk of vrbata being dealt from Vancouver. Surprised that we haven't seen Hudler linked to the Blackhawks in recent trade reports by insiders.

So probably there to see both vrbata and Hudler. Can see Dallas interested in Hudler more so than vrbata. Rivalry between Canucks and stars owners as well (stars owner was supposed to buy Canucks with aquilinis but was shuffled aside) which could complicate trade talks.

I wonder with the amount of cap space the Leafs have that they may actually be trying to get Wideman suspension or not.
Perhaps it's wishful thinking on my part, but they also traded for Nathan Horton so that'll take care of any logic issues people may have.

How about this scenario:

To LA: Kris Russell + Jiri Hudler + 3nd Round Pick (possibly salary retained)

To CGY: Kyle Clifford + 1st Round Pick + Derek Forbort

Would put LA over the edge IMO. And good value for us

Pass. I think we can get better assets back dealing the two players separately. Clifford and Forbort would provide some size, but not much in tangible hockey skill. I think we have players in our system that can provide similar play given a chance. The only thing of value I see in the trade is the 1st, and it is going to be a late late late first round pick, which may not be worth it after we kick in a 3rd round pick. We make the Kings a lot better heading into the playoffs, but we really don't do much to improve the Calgary Flames.

The only way I would want to combine both those players in a trade is if we are getting a player like Nikushkin or Drouin in return. Otherwise trade them separately

I still think the Flames are going to target Drouin from TB. I'd be curious if the Flames were able to get a 1st for either Hudler or Russell if they'd add that pick plus say Backlund for Drouin. Might be a pipe dream though.

Flames haven't been tied to Drouin for a while but I hope you are right.

The Flames would need to give up something good for that to happen. No thanks, Wideman will be gone before the Flames are competitive

I think the Flames are more likely to use acquired picks from this draft as useful assets to acquire other players, even more so than last year. After 15 or so, there isn't a lot of raw talent in this draft outside of Debrincat. The rest of the guys from 15-40 are more like the guys that went 50-75 last year, although last year was kind of nuts in terms of depth because JFK/Sprong/Andersson/Kylington are usually 15-25 picks.

It'll be an interesting 9 days either way.

Hiller + 5th for Bernier.

Flames get an NHL goalie who's under contract for essentially Ramo money going into next year who isn't coming off a massive knee injury.

Leafs clear 4.1m off their cap.

Bernier hasn't forgotten how to get hit by pucks, he just can't play in Toronto anymore. It's not an easy thing to do, nobody's been good at it since Ed Belfour.
