I wonder how magpies would be perceived if they weren't so freaking common, and thus fall into pest territory. It's true you can tell they're super intelligent for an animal. Interesting watching them when out on nature walks, how they work as a team and communicate with one another. They're really not bad looking birds either, have kind of a cool colour pattern.
But of course the negative is how aggressive they are. When I was growing up we had a bird feeder, the magpies were always scaring away the blue jays and robins that tried to come by which was annoying. I still think they'd be regarded quite differently if they existed in much smaller numbers in urban areas.

It's the incessant noise they make that is the worst. And how they taunt other animals. They are the a-holes of the bird kingdom. One morning I look out my front window and there were about 20 of them, all over my lawn and tree, just staring at me. So creepy.

Survivalists, minimalists, bug eaters, off the gridders and their horrible tv shows.
Magpies have little funerals for their deceased friends. Like to see a dirty ole blue jay do that.

I don't like buffets. I've tried many different kinds of them because everyone seems to love them, but I find the food quality to be considerably poorer then even just an average restaurant meal. I've tried expensive buffets too, in the $30-$50 range, and it's nowhere near what I'd expect from a $30 plate at a decent restaurant.
I think a lot of people get excited over the endless options and quantities and forget to actually think about the quality of the food and the experience. I'll be happy if I never eat buffet food again.

No, crows are awful. The sound they make is enough to justify killing them all.

I did visit the San Diego zoo last year and it was awesome, but that's basically the best one in the world so of course it was nice. Every two-bit town in the world doesn't need one, though. What a boring, non-active way to waste a day. I can't believe the people with season passes that go all the time. Get a fataing life.

I didn't want to be that guy (or the first one anyway), but I like magpies too. I think their behavior and mannerisms are funny. I watched a group of 3 totally troll a house cat before. Two would go on the grass and eat while a third would create a distraction, and then they would take turns.
Back when I live in Lethbridge, I was walking home from Tim Horton's carrying a paper bag. The little buggers followed me home going from lamp post to lamp post creating enough of a ruckus that other people were laughing. They didn't stop until I threw them a piece of bread from the bag.

I actually thought SD zoo was one of the worst. I remember in some of the parts that weren't major attractions seeing a snow leopard or something in a cage about the size of a jail cell. It looked awful.

I can't imagine anybody thinking that. It was outstanding. Built into that hill. Feels like you're in the middle of a jungle sometimes. That chairlift thing that goes over the whole zoo.
We also went to the back of the elephant enclosures. It looked like Jurrasic Park cages. That definitely seemed really cruel to have such big animals locked in such industrial, bad-ass cages.

I love those off the grid/survivalist shows but it really is a morbid love.

These terms describe magpie quite well, and I know that I would watch a reality TV show that starred a few magpie survivalists.

Magpies used to taunt my dog. Was quite comical, but I felt bad for my dog.

It is really funny because as a human, you intellectually side with the magpies, but your sense of morality leads you to side with the dumber animal out of pity.
It is really cool to watch birds like magpies and crows, and see something approaching reason - not dumb instinct - in their actions.
