Lowest goals per game since the 2004-2005 season, eh Leah?

He made a bunch on the last 5 on 3 but nobody noticed. There were a few times where they peppered 4 shots in a row from close in. I agree, the big saves need to be there (which is what I always said about Ramo too). I also agree that the last goal would have been a good time to make that big save. It might also have been a good time to bear down a bit on defence and break up a minute long cycle.

I didn't say that. I said the defense broke down. Yet Nakladal was in front of the net to stop an attack or deke, and Hiller dropped to his knees before the puck carrier was even in a position to shoot. Then he loses his net and the shooter has a lot of room to get a shot in.

Defenses will sometimes break down, but if you ask me what was the more egregious error, it's the goaltending. No doubt in my mind.

Yep but that's what nothing games like this are for. Let guys like this learn on the fly, hopefully learn from their mistakes, and turn into a dependable NHL player. Not saying that's going to be this guy's trajectory but the team will never know if they don't play these guys and give them a bit of rope to adjust to the speed of the NHL game.

This defense is really bad.
If we're talking the whole season the argument is different, the way you made it sound sounded like just tonight. Again I never expected it to be a top 5 D this season, Wideman is just playing brutal this year compared to last, Russell is "fine" but I want a different style number 4 because he is more detrimental than helpful. May be a fine #5 but that's it, Engelland is decent if he's sticking with as 5/6 And Smid.... I like the guy but again doesn't fit like Russell. Top 3 are strong, Hamilton is trending in the right direction, Brodie is Brodie and Gio is still consistent most nights. If we have a more balanced bottom 3 this will take some load off the Top 3.

Trust me there definitely is blame to go around but it's not one or the other this year. Tonight is not the same as the rest of the year and as such my argument is different.

I like this segment. The pads really have gone well past the point of protection.

Hiller is so bad, you can't even find him on NHL stats for GAA or Save Percentage. He is off the chart!

If he can't stop the pucks he should be stopping the big save becomes meaningless.

Best line in the intermission: you're going to have shrinkage in the pants.

Corey Hirsch during that segment:

♫ I look at those pads and there's size that needs shrinking
while my goalies gently weep ♫

I can't even imagine how bad Hiller would be with that gear.

Hiller has allowed 12 goals in his last 3 games, right?

Hey maybe those goalie changes will bring everyone down to how Hiller is playing.

Can you imagine Hiller's GAA with that equipment?

That segment was painful and embarassing to watch... I would hate to be a goalie if they did all of that....

I like Nakladl and his offensive games seems pretty good. I doubt he's a real long term Flame though.
