There's definitely some decent picks available that I'm OK with. Still need to find a decent veteran for a year or two. Maybe that's Bradford or Daniels. Could be a positive off season, couldn't be any worse than last years.

I imagine these stories will be the norm for the next 10-15 years

Quote:
Former Washington Redskins and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antwaan Randle El is perhaps best remembered for his 43-yard touchdown pass in Super Bowl XL that aided a Pittsburgh win over Seattle, but a decade later, the physical and mental drawbacks have been so significant that he regrets ever playing in the NFL.

“If I could go back, I wouldn’t” play football, he told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in a Steelers-themed project posted Tuesday. “I would play baseball. I got drafted by the Cubs in the 14th round, but I didn’t play baseball because of my parents. They made me go to school. Don’t get me wrong, I love the game of football. But right now, I could still be playing baseball.”

Randle El, who played in Washington from 2006 to 2009 between two stints in Pittsburgh, said he regularly experiences trouble walking down stairs — “I have to come down sideways sometimes, depending on the day” — and has serious memory lapses.”

Hell at least he got paid decently during his NFL career.

It's crazy to think of the kids that play 5 or 6 years in High School, and then play another 4 years in a junior college somewhere, and in the end all they really got out of it was long term damage to their brain.

Even most CFLers don't get paid enough over the course of their career to cover their long term health risks.

There is too much money in football for it to ever really change but it's crazy to think of the potential long term damage that football is doing (especially to young people).

I don't have kids yet but if I do I don't really think I will want them to play football. At least the intense impact feels less frequent in hockey (although the risk is still there).

All I hope for every year with the Pro Bowl is that some of these all star pass rushers actually decide to participate and completely destroy a QB from the blindside.

With what happened in SF last year and now Megatron. This will become a common thing. Even the guys in their prime.

Thanks again, Detroit. They should be barred from having generational talents.

I mean Calvin did voluntarily choose to sign a long-term contract extension there, so he shares some blame for wasting his career there.

Ya, does anyone believe he is actually done? Guaranteed he joins the Pats, or some other top tier team, midseason.

I thought he was going to be cut anyway with his cap number becoming absurd next year. So maybe he really is retiring. I do think that this could be future of the NFL, more guys retiring late 20's/early 30's to try and take a few years of abuse off the body (and head more importantly). What's all the money worth if you live in misery physically/mentally? If you make a nice contract and get out before you take too much punishment, why not?

Agreed. That was the best when Sean Taylor absolutely obliterated the Bills punter in that one Pro Bowl.

How about that time when Terrell Suggs dislocated Drew Brees' elbow on a 4th down play in the 1st quarter? Good times.
