Why? Governments aren't and they have pots of (our) money to spend on web-based crap. Which is what most government websites are: crap. They are hard to navigate, useless for finding information and generally just a sad lot - poor on eye-flow and congruence.

Many large businesses, news organizations etc. fare no better.

There are LOTS of orgs using the internet that have no idea how it works, how to manage their part in it and least of all, what people might do if given the chance to do so.

The NHL just blunders more often that most.

Anyway, sour grapes by some aside, I don't know how you could watch that whole thing and not be entertained. It was the most competitive it's been in years, had a feel-good storyline... for once, we're going to be going into next year's ASG thinking, instead of "how can we make this not suck", we'll be asking "how can we make this better".

For me? Keep the voting, but have each team nominate 4-5 guys for the spot, and then let fans of that team vote for them. Maybe you get a few guys who wouldn't otherwise get the recognition included. And it solves the no-show problem; who's going to want to give their own fans the finger by not showing up after being voted in?

Oh I totally agree. Just didn't comment on them. It turned out well but you're right, no one voted for him for any other reason than because he sucks (for an NHL player).

I wasn't happy he was voted in and I hope the vote system gets changed, but I was happy for Scott after seeing how the players and fans in attendance turned something that was meant to be a joke into a legitimately great moment

another great read from SI. It's really hard to not pull for him, given everything that's been written and his charisma.

Yes, I agree that every player has their story. but not every player has their story played out in the way John Scott's has. I read that he was offered non playing hockey related positions prior to this last deal he signed. I'm happy that this opportunity probably opened up further doors for him to stay in hockey in any capacity.

No, you don't get to have it both ways. You don't get to be arrogant and judgmental of others then turn around and demand that you not be judged yourself. I have no problem with your opinions, but if you are going to put your opinions out there looking for praise and support, then you need also accept the criticism.

It was a funny, amusing onetime thing, but seriously IDGAF anymore. No I don't want to watch a John Scott documentary movie, or see him as Parade Marshall the Calgary Stampede (why?).

He is a well educated man with a degree and a family that is about to double. Toiling in the minors isn't the only way he can earn a living.
Ya well he's earning almost 600 000 a year in the minors, I'd stick it out as long as I could. I don't care how "well educated" of a man he is, he'll never earn anywhere near this with his "education"

I could totally understand this if he was from Calgary, but Cmon the guy is from EDMONTON. Maybe he should "parade marshall" the damn Klondike Days I think! Lol

An engineering degree isn't a "quote unquote" education. It's a degree.

And yes, I realized I quoted, quote unquote. I'm glad the universe didn't implode.

The whole point is he won't be making 600 000 with his "Degree" so he might as well stick it out as long as he can

Jamie McLennan suggested Vince Vaughn for the John Scott story. Not a bad choice - big tall guy, funny, hockey fan. Don't know how well he can actually skate.

Why are you continuing to put his university obtained education and degree in quotes? Are you insinuating that it's somehow an inferior achievement than other people who attend universities to get degrees? I don't understand.

I really hope the Bilko answers your "question".

Not sure what Bilko meant, but he is ten years removed from his mechanical engineering degree with I assume no relevant work experience in the mean time. His degree is pretty much useless now and I doubt he tries to have a career in the field. He will most likely continue making money with hockey in some form or another.

I think what he was trying to say is he has a degree/education, but he's not a engineer in the sense that it isn't his profession nor will it be his profession. Pretty much what Fire said above, he's too far removed from out of school for anyone to take him (maybe?) ... I can't see it happening, but I'm not a MecE... maybe there is work for him in project management or something where any technical skills he needs is all but forgotten.

(Side note: kind of funny the 2 biggest news are John Scott at the all star game, and Denis Wideman facing a 10-20 game or more suspension. At the beginning of the season, you'd think you'd have the 2 backwards.)

Gaudreau was ready to give Scott the car if he won it.
