If Comrie didn't engage god mode before the game, Stockton would have won that game 8-1. So many breakaways and two on ones and cross ice pass one timers that he robbed.
50 saves on 51 shots.

6 minutes left, still 2-1 Heat
Shots are 45-21.
Listening to this game, I can't believe it's not 10-1
Heat all over the Moose, just can't bury the puck.

...and of course a flukey goal with just over a minute left, and the Moose net empty, Manitoba scores to tie it.

Thinking out loud here, but what do you guys think of a grant/granlund switch? 2 more points for grant tonight and I'd say he deserves another look. Truthfully I liked what I saw the first time he was up. Good size, good on the draw and maybe with some offensive confidence would be able to chip in with a few goals. I seem to be souring on granlund every game it seems. Just not getting it done for me. Had a solid first handful of games, but since then I just haven't liked his game as much. He's coming close to being one of those guys that's to good for the ahl, but not good enough to stick.

Poulin started again as well, after starting yesterday.
Imagine if Gillies was healthy?
Ortio would be 3rd string in the AHL. Boy has his stock dropped. Mine as well call him Joni "Oilio".
|
It's too bad to see Ortio in this position. He's got the tools he's just lost his confidence which for a goalie is terrible.

Granlund has nothing left to learn in the AHL. He's also waiver eligible next year, so an extended look for him in the NHL is extremely important. Just because he's struggling right now doesn't matter much if you're going to lose the player next season on waivers. He needs to learn his lessons in the NHL so he might be able to slot in a bottom six role next year effectively.
As for Grant, if the Flames decide to pull the trigger and deal 5 or 6 players at the deadline, I'd be all for him getting a shot.

Given Derek Grant's superb season in Stockton I asked myself the question what the NHL equivalence next year for a player like Derek at age 25 lightening in up in the AHL should he make the Flames next season.
I used the following reference (Gabriel Desjardins source from http://www.coppernblue.com/2010/7/6/...quivalencies):
AHL: age 25 0.47 (0.25-0.69)
That translates to 30/26 X 0.47 (0.25-0.69) = 44 pts with a range of 23 points to 64 points.
Large caveat, the sample size of these numbers is tiny though with few patients promoted from AHL to NHL after age 25.
Pretty decent production potential nevertheless.

By the way Poulin is just a year older then Ortio, at 26. So he's by no means just a throw away AHL goalie. Ortio needs to step up or an injury at the main club will have Poulin coming up instead of Ortio.

I think Poulin is the definition of a throw away AHL goalie. He has literally been thrown away twice this year. Unfortunately, Ortio is trending in that direction as well.

At 26 Poulin could just be entering his best years. He does have 50 NHL games so far so the Islanders believed he had some promise. There are a lot of NHL goalies who moved around a lot before getting it together.

He was hurt on Jan 13. Had to be helped off the ice and was favouring his left leg.
Huska called it a week to week injury.

Wasn't the word out on Poulin that he was looking like a really good goalie prospect until an injury kind of ruined his chances? Something about much slower lateral movement? I could be mis-remembering something though.

Not sure if this link will work - http://www.ahl.prospect-stats.com/teams.html
But interesting here that Stockton is actually 2nd in the league in terms for % of shots on net (don't have Corsi or any of that info for the AHL). They also lead the league in a good margin in terms of shots of net per game - they just have a really crummy shooting percentage.
Some of the bad offensive stats by some players could be explained by bad luck.

when I watch I feel like they get lots of shots but don't get a lot of scoring chances
