The more insane this gets, the more support Trump gets. It doesn't make any sense.
No way he actually becomes President, right? Right? Guys?

Nope. Trump winning the nomination is a democrat's wet dream. Whether it be Hillary or Sanders they'll waltz to a victory.

Polls suggest only Sanders would beat the top GOP guys, I know I'm in the minority here but I think even Trump will crush the lying, cheating nitwit named Hillary Clinton.
If they both make it threw, I'll take bets!

That's worse than actually being stupid.

It's good old-fashioned demagoguery. And it's been around since the Greeks invented democracy (and the word demagogue).

What irks me the most is when Trump/Palin (or really all of the Republican candidates) pump up the "this is a Christian nation" rhetoric. Do really not see that it goes against everything that America stands for?

Trump is absolutely detested by minorities, independents, democrats and a very significant portion of the GOP. If he wins the nomination he should stand no chance of winning. People may not vote for a democrat but they sure as heck will stay home or leave the presidential ballot empty. Latest match up polls have Clinton and Sanders destroying Trump in a hypothetical matchup. Sanders has actually surged and holds his own in all theoretical match ups right now. Of course some of these polls are few and far between.
People seem confused about the Sanders surge as they can't seem to find something significant to point to that would lead to a surge. I can't help but think if it was Biden's comments that cemented some things for some voters. At least temporarily. The big endorsement that people are waiting for is Warren...if Sanders can get that then look out. Still think Warren should have run. Remarkably well spoken and bright. Also think that whoever gets the nomination would be very smart to make her their running mate.

Trump can't win the general election.
A huge portion of his own party won't even support him, they detest him.
Either his own party votes against him, or simply don't vote, same result - Democrat win.

People are seriously, deeply underselling Trump. Or more to the point, Trump supporters. This is the most amazing collection of people supporting a candidate I've seen. People want to think that because his base is primarily stupid, angry and ignorant people, it's just GOPers, but it's really not. People don't want to believe there's a lot of stupid people who support Democrats, but there is. And this time they're supporting Trump. There's a lot of independents too who are stupid and ignorant. Add all that up, and then add in the likely anti-Clinton/anti-Socialism vote for Hillary/Bernie, and Trump is pretty close to having the election won. I said it before and I still think it's slightly better than 50/50 that one year from today it really is President Donald Trump.

Or maybe he says so many dumb or ignorant things that he us in the news every day making it seem like he is so popular when in fact it's just the fringe and media we hear about.
We will see soon enough, but I think he will be in trouble when things get serious.

But it is just GOPers. His approval/disapproval ratio among democrats and independents is worse than any potential nominee has basically ever seen. It is not going to far to suggest he is not just not liked but is despised by those groups. In fact out of all the nominees the only candidate that has a favourable ratio is Sanders. As Trumps favourability increased within the GOP it was marked by a larger offset among independents and democrats. Now of course never say never but he's got a massively huge uphill battle if he wins the nomination. And I don't think it helps him among the independents to tie his wagon up to Palin like he did. It'll play well with the Tea Party folk he's courting right now but everyone else thinks she's an idiot.

Yup. This is what I have been saying since the summer. You can stop talking about stupid and ignorant. Those are just convenient ideological monikers.
Let's talk about angry and afraid.

I don't disagree, but would you not agree that the fear is driven by misinformation spread to uninformed people that aren't interested in finding out what the actual truth is? And angry over things that are actually (largely) the fault of the side they tend to vote for?
Sure, they are afraid, but, to me, not actually doing any thinking for yourself and just accepting what these people say (on either side) as the truth IS stupid.
Funnily enough, I googled "stupid" to find the formal definition, and this was the first news article returned from the search:
http://www.motherjones.com/mixed-med...mp-sarah-palin
Obviously it's because it is the most recent article, and "stupid" is in the title, but I still find it funny.

They only do when it's a Sanders/Trump matchup, where somehow Bernie is 15 points up. But I very much doubt that holds when it gets to a real matchup instead of a hypothetical. I also think Trump runs over Sanders in a general and makes him look old and weak. You can say that shouldn't matter, but it clearly does to a lot of Americans. Hillary is in a tie in most H2H with Trump right now, and she has 9 months of landmines to avoid. She's crafty (and a liar) so maybe she can do it, but if she steps on even one she's probably done.
I guess I'm refusing to give American voters credit, whereas other people think that America will be like Canada and won't really fall for it when the chips are down. We'll see, but American voters do not deserve the benefit of the doubt. They tend to pretty consistently vote against their own interests. It's on them to prove me otherwise, not for me to trust they won't elect a maniac like Trump.

Sanders is only 5 years older than Trump.
It would be a battle of terrible hair though.
