its certainly a gamble but when you have a chance to get a guy who was recently drafted 3rd overall and has already put up decent numbers at the NHL level you at least need to consider it. I honestly don't know if they would accept anyway, Calgary seems to be trending towards a mid-round pick

In regards to the lottery post (didn't want to copy all that) if the Flames draft second you draft Puljujarvi and run away giggling with glee.

no its called logic...go look at some past drafts
how often do the top 10 all become even quality NHL players
let alone elite
It is NOT likely "any of the top 10 are better than Drouin"
Guy had 108 points in 49 games in junior he was drafted 3rd overall for a reason

So I have heard both McKenzie and Friedman point to this weekend as a likely catalyst for a Drouin trade.
Drouin is scheduled to play 3 games in 3 nights this weekend, and depending on how he plays a team may pull the trigger.

Friedman also speculating that TB wants a right-hand shot D or a forward with an edge

That's the shopping list. Why change it?

If we could only somehow get both Hayes and Drouin.
Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Kevin Hayes
Jonathan Drouin - Sam Bennett - Michael Frolik

That's not quite what PepsiFree said:

I think I would tend to agree that under circumstances in which a team has four top-end NHL forwards, one of them should play RW.
Having said that, I think it is pretty well established that teams can and do win without four top-end forwards, but the way the Flames are set up for the future (top-end LW + two top-end centres), it makes the best sense to focus on addressing RW as a priority need. Not that the Flames need a star RW, only that they need a very good, bona-fide top six RW.

Drouin has had a lot of injuries and the 3 games in 3 days will give teams the opportunity to see if he is really 100%

if you think its a good deal you make it...regardless of position, future cap, strengths, ect.
Its all about assets, if you you think this is a playoff team you would be trading a mid round pick for a guy drafted 3rd overall in 2013. You do that deal every time.
Risk is if the Flames end up picking top 5 and I think that is the only reason Tampa even considers it (maybe they wouldn't)

Wideman shoots right and Ferland has an edge.

How does TB fit the cap. Even 50% retained on both?

I'd imagine Wideman 50% retained + Ferland doesn't cut it.
They want ONE high calibre player in return.

The funny thing is people would still complain if they somehow managed to pull off that steal of the century, I can see the FB posts now

And then he went 60th. A nice start to his pro career doesn't erase all of the concerns that caused him to drop.
