Well, no. Because if Drouin hits his potential you'll be trading one of those four to acquire a RW or a more reliable goaltender.
The "less than elite price" is great but if Drouin becomes great then you better hope Bennett doesn't, or you're trading away a core piece in a couple years time for SURE.
Future scenarios shouldn't exist where we have 6 star players and none of them play RW or G.

I was just going to add, but GranteedEV beat me. If the pick used to get Drouin were to get TB one of those Fins Flames fans would hate the deal.

Flames current place in the standing has a lot to do with games played and a horrible start if you ask me...gamble for sure but I can't see the defence forgetting how to play for a month again

I totally am. IMO until he proves otherwise he is a Sven. Higher first rounder that is worth more than a 2nd and less than a 1st.
Not a bust, but nothing about him scream elite right now.
I'd have a look at some of the players on that top ten list.

I can guarantee there will be a bust or two in the top ten of this years draft and certainly they wont all be elite.
Sven wasn't a 3rd overall pick and you are going by junior hockey stats
Drouin had what 108 points in 50 games

Drouinès puck handling is elite, his creativity his high-end, and he beat Phil Kessell in last year`s skating race IIRC. He's definitely not a Sven in terms of tools.

I am aware of the OK hype prior to his draft year. It wasn't a secret. All the credible hockey media outlets were talking about him.
Doesn't change the fact I would trade him for Drouin at the moment.

I don't agree with this. I think a team can afford 4 forwards making $6+M. Flames might have to trade the likes of Frolik, Stajan, and Backlund. Also if all 4 become elite and we have them then likely a deep playoff run is happening

Gamble now or at the draft.
Does Drouin in the lineup right now help? Does he deserve to go from AHL to top six?
I'd sooner take chances at the draft. That first with something else might get you more at the draft. Like moving up to snag a part Flames need.

Totally, if they could somehow land Hayes (seems very unlikely, however) that would be great. He can play with Johnny. Promise.

I think the Flames need another elite potential winger to play with either Monahan or Bennett long term more than they need a RW that can play on the top line. I imagine Bennett would be much better playing on a line with an elite playmaker than Granlund and Raymond or Backlund and Frolik

I think the flames need of an elite potential winger to play with one of our top centers is a huge need

Depends if you think the Flames are gonna make the playoffs...I do
They are gonna be ahead of the canucks, Oilers, and arizona IMO
SJ, ANA, LA...they just need to be better than one of these
Looking at the play the last month or so I am pretty confident

Why is that such a problem for you?
Plethora of guys that could round out the top ten that I wouldn't trade straight across for Drouin.

Also Bennet = gym rat. Drouin not so much.
The price seems pretty elite to me if it involves a first. Any of the top ten picks this year are likely better than Drouin.
|
How do you know this? Can you back these assertions up?

But also a first round draft pick might have more value now in trade negotiations than it will in June.
Treliving could suggest that a holder of the Flames first rounder may have a shot at the Finnish draft lottery.
However by season end if the Flames are in the playoffs ( not a stretch) then that first round pick is likely in the 14-20 spot and the Finns are long gone.
You may have better currency to use it now - especially if it lands you Drouin.

It does, but it is what it is. Keep in mind that the prize for making the playoffs anyway will almost certainly be first round match-up to Anaheim.
This isn't the year consider selling my top pick for a guy who is a nice-to-have but not a must-have.

thats not the question, if the Flames are in the playoffs they are almost certainly not picking someone at Douin's level. Would be different if he was older its not selling if you are getting a player under 23.

flames need an elite fw with size.
We have lots of medium sized and a couple of small size fw.
Flames need beef. Elite beef.
If they can get DJ without giving up this years first I think it's worth the risk.
I'm a homer. Maybe I over value our guys. That's why I post here and not the other place. Lol
