What a thread. As a person who donated (not much), this whole thing has been quite a fascinating read.

I don't have much to add that hasn't already been said.

I still don't understand the timeline. On Sept 30, he posted to the gators board pleading desperate poverty and how his life was ruined by a cheating ex. The very next day he announced on his Facebook that he was getting a house and he was engaged two weeks after that.

PIMKing's letter is full of him playing the victim again.

<Edited to remove reference to buying a house as I don't have evidence on hand>

Good to have a response from him.

I'm still confused about the fiancee thing - no idea when she came into play - but I'll leave it to others to fact-check. Also don't really understand the deleting of social media accounts etc.

I wonder if Dobbles and Pylon have any impressions to add, as they have some "behind the scenes" contact with PIMking. I don't know what to believe.

To buy a house, one needs a substantial down payment, payment for closing costs, and an approval for a mortgage. How could that happen overnight?

PIMKing's letter is full of him playing the victim again.
What the what?

I wouldn't assume "getting my own place" means buying a house. Am I missing something?

I'm 95% sure that he started a thread here about his home here too. It seems to have been deleted though.

EDIT: I've removed reference to buying a house. I don't have evidence on hand of that but I believed it to be the case. It is still odd that one day he has no money and the next day he was paid and had a place.

The guy is just a doofus. All of my original prejudices confirmed - sad sack who can't keep it together. 20 bucks more or less well-spent. Probably kept him off the street but that is it.

i'll be honest, i have not been in touch with him much the last few years. after making my initial post in this thread the other day, he reached out through friends to get my number and we have been texting. so i am not super equipped to speak on the subject as i only vaguely knew of the issues and had no idea that CP had supported him so much.

really for me though, knowing him as i have for all these years, it helps me come with a different perspective. i see someone that has never been the best with words or communicating, someone that has never had the best history with money and relationships, but someone that has never wronged me or any or our common acquaintances.

so I read through all this and instead of seeing a con-man or scum of the earth, I see someone that was most likely down on his luck, reached out for help, got way more than expected, and didn't exactly spend it the best. (the ikea purchases everyone loves to rail on) But I also see someone that basically got doxxed and started deleting social media accounts after getting harrassed, not because they were guilty. FYI, he texted me screenshots of what people were saying so I know its legit.

Also, as we look through this, if this was some sort of long con or well thought out plan, why would he have the least protected online presence ever? Why would he use these communities that he has spent years in? Heck, when he created his account here he was living in Iowa and working a construction job. I really doubt he got poor on purpose just to screw some people over 5 years later.

tl;dr - I do think this issue has obviously spiraled out of control. There's a lot bad on all sides. But at the end of the day, in my opinion, this was not something that started as a deceitful plan. Was he stupid with how he handled the windfall? Sure. Did he try to milk people for extra after receiving the initial support. Perhaps. But I don't think the way he is being portrayed here is accurate.

I don't recall being told in his thread that he had another GFM running on another board. That's where it gets shady. With all of his thank yous and whatnot, you'd think he'd have acknowledged that it was also happening elsewhere. But he didn't. Probably because if he did, both of them would have slowed down significantly. And for that matter, why start up a new on for the other board? Why not just link to the one that was already going? I think I know why. I was hoping he would have addressed that in his letter.

Okay so we got a response. There is just a few things that don't work.

Why post to multiple boards the exact same message? (At least 3?)

Why delete Facebook, twitter, CP, etc. Acts of a guilty party. He had a chance to post a response when he viewed the thread and took everything down.

As others have mentioned, timelines don't add up.

Whatever, don't think he will be back, and seems like a back peddle, after so much fury was raised.

Gotta laugh at the "long con" angle

If he started out (a long time ago) with the intention of screwing everyone over he probably wouldn't have used his real name or posted where he lives, works, girlfriend's name, photos of himself, etc.

Nobody on here knows the whole story but a whole group of anonymous internet police are ready to ruin the guys life. I have no idea how he got where he is today but he can keep my $20 (or whatever I donated).

I think this take on things is probably the closest to what really happened. I get a lot of gofundme requests (involved with animal rescue and participate on a lot of dog-related sites) and most of them are very similar. People who are bad at planning, want someone else to solve their problems for them, and make bad decisions (about money and everything else). Giving those people money might help with an actual bill in the moment, but it doesn't suddenly turn them into good decision makers.

PIM's on my Xbox friend list. This is who was laying down covering fire for me in those matches of Battlefield 4? I feel violated.
