I don't think the Flames are too small, in fact I feel like we've got one of the bigger teams in the league. The problem is when Hartley's go to unit is:

Russell-Hamilton
Hudler-Monahan-Gaudreau

Where our three smallest players are always on the ice together and Monahan isn't really the most aggressive pursuer of the puck.

That's just bad design. Don't force Russell/Hudler/Gaudreau to always be out there together.

they didn't, Flames had the majority of the big hits, chances were fairly even but they buried one where the Flames hit a crossbar

some people are reading far too much into a one goal loss...if anything the Ducks realized they can't run and gun with the Flames so they just tried to lock it down all night and hope to get a goal, they did but it could have gone either way

New rule; if 4 defenders are in the zone after the puck enters the opposing zone there is no offside or icing

Wish we'd have gotten the first goal so we could have seen a different game where anaheim fore checked. Trap with the first man outside our blue line was terribly boring.

Reminds me of Brett sutter era. You might win, but even a win wasn't worth watching.

But we need to figure out a strategy to counter the trap. It's too effective against us.

Kind of worries me that the team relies on the stretch pass so heavily that they don't know what to do when a team is able to shut it down.

It was like a punch in face tonight realizing more than ever just how much we need a big finnisher on the right side on the top line.

Like really, really, really need this, #1 top priority. Hudler is done.

The lines Hartley has been running at home just set a franchise record for wins.

The captain played like crap, could have been 2-0 directly from one of his mistakes.

Can't win them all. I thought the ducks got a ton of free line changes from waved off icing calls. Finish off LA on NYE.

Any team looking to shut down the Flames should watch tonight's game tape. That was a defensive clinic by Anaheim, but it sure makes the game boring as hell to watch.

The funny thing is, go back and look at the games they win. They never use it.

I honestly think Hartley uses the stretch pass to break the high pressure trap teams, but it clearly doesn't work.

It's also the common safe play for the defense when he feels he's got no time. They don't keep the stat, but the flames lead the league in sure in icings. If there's no forward available and the D to D is cut off they try to bomb a low percentage but hard to pick off bomb up the ice.

Should be a suspension.
The league has much more impactful things to worry about disciplining right than something as trivial as what Kesler did there. Love the Flames response though, I did think the best take away from this game was how much more physical the Flames were with the Ducks, so that ending was just the topper to that.

Wow I watched this tonight, and thought that it was 90's trap interference hockey.

The refs put their whistles in their pocket tonight to the determent of any kind of offensive hockey.

Ah well move on.

Flames just don't match up well against teams that play the trap. The go too for that type of system is the stretch pass, which is pretty much exactly what trap teams want you to try

Yup easily could have been a baker's dozen holding and interference calls. But ya ah well. Learn from it and move on.

Neither does Gio when the team loses. His giveaway right in the slot to a duck was brutal.

Team made to to the top 8 without the guy last season. He gets way too much rope for garbage play and not skating with the puck.

I thought they were pretty feisty out there. Blames the Ducks and their stupid trap system.

Tough game. They played Johnny perfectly. Slashed, whacked, hacked every chance they got. He seemed tentative and passive.

Liked Bennett's game again. He's on a roll, just can't score.

Jones played good.

Every time we got the puck in our dzone we tossed it into the neutral zone to nobody.

Can't fault Ramo on their goal. Was a great shot.

Sucks the streak came to an end.
