Who is the poster comparing Bennett to? Either I misread the post or you did

Huh? He isn't saying anything about Bennett except for he's truly untouchable and doesn't consider him a prospect anymore.

Yeah, I misunderstood that, looked like saying we can't trade Bennett was the same as saying we can't trade the previous listed.

Honestly, outside of Bennett (who I don't consider a prospect anymore), The Jackets can have any one of our prospects. 80% of them won't ever become NHLers.... that's not an indictment on our pool, it's just the reality of the NHL.
I agree they can take anyone off our roster except the core 6. Johannsen would be a huge addition to the core. Honestly I think there are 2 missing pieces to turn this team into a legit cup contender. They need that number 1 goalie and one more elite forward be it a wing or centre. Adding Johanssen and pairing him with Bennett and then having Gaudreau and Monahan this team would be set for years to come.

If the Jackets would insist on Jankowski, Kylington, Porier, Hickey etc they need to be on the table

Kinda reminds me when people were making Poirier off-limits a year or so back.

No one wants our crap for their top players, you have have to give something good. I do agree with ppl saying the big 6 should be left alone. IMO, the only way those guys are not involved is if Treiliving takes back a bad contract like Clarkson.
True, that's why I'm not sure I would make the trade. If it's not a bargain for us to take their problem child off their hands, then we do not really need to make the trade.

I know I wouldn't take a trade involving say Klimchuk/Poirier + Granlund/Backlund + first for Ryan Johansen even if RJO was acting like a petulant child and was so toxic that he just needed to be moved.

If there's a cost that works for us then pull the trigger. Otherwise, it's their mess and they still have to deal with it. Just like Hamilton basically telling the Bruins to stick it last year. That was Boston's problem and they dealt with it.

It would definitely not be Brodie. He might be more untouchable than Bennett right now.

Plenty of teams can easily and I mean easily offer twice as much. So I guess you won't have to worry about that being offered and accepted.

You wouldn't trade Gio for Johansen?

To me, only Gaudreau, Monahan, and Brodie actually have more value than Johansen. Gio, Hamilton and Bennett are good, but I would be surprised if most teams viewed them as more valuable than Johansen.

But yeah, I would rather give up pending UFAs, draft picks (including first rounders) and grade A prospects.

Hudler + Hickey + the 2016 first sounds like a lot, but just imagine having Johansen to play with Gaudreau and Monahan for the next 10 years...

Oh boy, I'd happily make that trade. I know Johansen's history, but he's a player I'd easily give up that package for, especially in this new NHL landscape where you simply don't sign stars as free agents and are very lucky to draft them.

Backlund+Poirier + 1st for Ryan Johansen? In a heart beat, that's a very good trade. We can't expect to blow teams out of the water with every trade and that proposal isn't a homerun, but it's a trade you make in a second if it was available, imo.

I think other posters have nailed it - we can't get too attached to our own prospects/players when proclaiming them untouchable or thinking they have potential so therefore let's not trade them for actual NHL talent. Ryan Johansen is a star player.

I think a realistic package for Johansen is a lot more than what people are suggesting around here. A 1st rounder + a couple B prospects?

He's 23 year old huge #1C that put up 71 points last year with very little supporting cast.

It would be Bennett + or a couple first rounders and a prospect IMO.

If I were making a trade proposal it would be;

2016 1st, Hudler, Backlund + a prospect (kylington, hickey, Poirier etc)

I know some will say "wow, way too much", but it really isn't with how tight everyone is to budgets/the cap now a days. It's becoming a league where you compile as many assets as possible in the hopes of trading them in for one bigger asset, aka what Brad did to get Hamilton.

Does Kekalainen say no to

Backlund, + Kylington or Andersson, + Wotherspoon or Seiloff + 1st round pick for RyJo?

Edit: instead of a 1st, Jankowski? He's much further along in development than a fresh new 1st rounder.

Is that overpayment? I think it's too much.

I am all for acquiring Ryan Johansen but trading the captain of this team for him is nonsensical. He's not a leader or a player you build around, that's something the Blue Jackets have realized and that's why he's on the market. He's more Dany Heatley than Peter Forsberg.

I want RyJo on the Flames at a reasonable cost. But pin all your hopes on him and you'll end up where the CBJ are - bottom of the league.

It's not about overvaluing prospects or Gio it's about properly valuing RyJo and his value is low right now for a reason. FWIW the only prospects I'd consider untouchable in a RyJo trade are Bennett and Janko. Hickey would be a tough pill to swallow but I'd choke it down.

Second time he's had us linked to Columbus. A three way trade involving Hamonic was what was heard earlier this year.

I could be wrong but:

A) I cant see any package of players that doesnt include one of the 'big 6' that would get Johansen. Jackets need help on the D and now, even giving up a 1st rounder (+) is almost like a partial rebuild move for them. That franchise cant afford to have some bottom feeder years right now.
B) Backlund and Hudler dont count as equivalent roster players. Jackets especially dont need an expensive rental this year (cough Hudler), they are out. They will be gearing up for a healthy run next year.
C) its a huge gamble to give up a 1st rounder before you know whether you're a playoff team or not. Starting this year any team outside the playoffs has a chance at 1st, 2nd, 3rd picks in the lottery. Could you imagine SanJo misses the playoffs this year and the first they gave up for Jones gets picked as a top 3 in the lottery? Ouch.

I would love to get Johansen but Treliving would have to be a god to pull it off and keep the big 6 and not give up a bunch of 1st round picks. Just dont see it happening.

I'm sure there will be a third time. And a fourth time. Maybe ryjo will be dealt to another team that's not on Eklunds radar before it's a fifth time.

No doubt bt has made inquiries but can't see any fit here.

Ryjo? (closest there is to vomiting).

Flames don't need to waste valuable cap space on a guy with questionable character!

No way Flames get Johansen without giving up one of Brodie / Gio / Gaudreau / Bennett / Monahan / Hamilton, and that's why I don't want the Flames to trade for him.
