Totally agree but I just don't see it happening without one of those players going the other way. Personally I would also include Gillies in that group - I think he's going to be something special and the Flames need to develop a goalie.

I have a feeling it would take sending Bennett to Jackets.

Seeing that its coming from Eklund I'm not gonna put much stock into it.

If Johansen isn't a moody psycho, I'd probably do this deal. Straight up though, no picks

So apparently the Oilers have recalled a goalie prospect from Finland that further stokes the Scrivens for Kassian trade rumor

There is no way I see the Flames trading Bennett. Francis on the FAN earlier in year was speaking about Gaudreau and his year. He said that he talked to 3 high ranking Flames executives and asked which of the 3 young forwards would be the best and they all said Bennett. I think the Flames know what they have in Bennett and will not move him.

Must have been fresh off his playoff run when they said that.

I know fans like the 'what have you done for me lately' mentality.

But GMs don't change their assessments of 18 and 19 year old players based on a few games in their rookie seasons. It's a process. Bennett's ceiling is still exactly the same as it was in May, regardless of how you think he played last week.

Francis did mention he asked over the summer so you would be correct. Having said that the team needs to be patient with Bennett. While I don't think he will be better than Gaudreau he has elite potential

I think that phrase it trademarked up north, and should never be used when describing any Flames player.

I am pretty sure that phrase has quotations around special....more like something "special"

The only things I would add to that are Kylington and Jankowski because they look to have top half of the roster potential.

Not sure if the Flames are the best fit.

I would deal the 1st in the trade only because outside of the top 8-10 are kind of meh and if we added Johansen, we would not be picking that low.

Well you have to give something to get a quality first liner. If you start telling Jarmo he can't have likes of Kylington/Janko in trade talks he'll say F off and hang up.

Kinda reminds me when people were making Poirier off-limits a year or so back.

No one wants our crap for their top players, you have have to give something good. I do agree with ppl saying the big 6 should be left alone. IMO, the only way those guys are not involved is if Treiliving takes back a bad contract like Clarkson.

I just cannot see how this would even be even possible.

Doubtful. Everything I heard is they want a young top pairing D man. It would be Brodie.

Greg Nemisz is off limits, he's going to be a top 6 player one day
Sven Baertschi is off limits, he has elite skills, he'll be a first liner easily
Chris Breen is off limits, he's big and tallented, and you can't teach big
Emile Poirier is off limits, his speed and size make him a sure fire top 6er, plus he plays RW
Joni Ortio is off limits, he's our goalie of the future

Honestly, outside of Bennett (who I don't consider a prospect anymore), The Jackets can have any one of our prospects. 80% of them won't ever become NHLers.... that's not an indictment on our pool, it's just the reality of the NHL.

Agree. However the Jackets are a few years away from being contenders for the playoffs. They have many holes to fill on that roster and you have to think a rebuild is coming at some point for them.

Yes Saad, Dubinsky, Foligno and Johnson are nice pieces to lead a group. But they are more role players or complimentary guys.
Gotta think they will be trade fodder if CBJ isn't in the dance come next years(not this year's) playoffs..

Then add the Bobrovsky issue.. He's getting long in the tooth and with his confidence issues, you can't ride him for long.

If I'm Kekalainen, I'm strongly considering Calgary D prospects.

If you can manage to get your hands on 2 of
Kulak, Seiloff, Hickey, Anderson, Kylington and Morrison plus a 1st rounder 1-20, you have to seriously consider it.

Is this really the lane you're picking to travel?

Bennett was a 4th overall pick and was named the top prospect in his draft year by CSS.

What an odd, odd comparison.
