The last time i heard the Dome chant a players name was Iggy or Kipper. Johnny Johnny Johnny! sounds pretty damn good.
I sure hope they can lock him up for more than 5 years. 7 would be fantastic. Honestly he is the most nightly skilled Flames player especially at home maybe ever. Iggy had a completly different skill set. Fluery would be closer to the conversation also extremely crafty like Johnny.
Gaudreau's skill is so fun to watch.
And Brodie is skating like Bobby Orr.

It is hard to fathom. Wideman really struggled last night and Hamilton was a threat every shift.
But it was back to Wideman every PP, no matter what.

Hartley is a good coach. It just seem that when he finds a role for a guy, it's damn near impossible for someone to take that role away from them. I honestly think Dougie should be our go too Dman on the PP. His shot is something no one else on our blue line has and we need to take advantage of it.

I know Dougie has a great wrist/snap shot, but I haven't seen him take too many slapshots and in particular one timers. It seems so obvious to put him in that role, I wonder if he has a hard time with that particular move or something?

I don't know. I do know that his wrister/snap shot has velocity like it is a slap shot. That guy rips them, you just don't see it coming. Good ole clapper you can see from a mile a way. I think he utilizes his shot in a smart way.

If it hasn't been mentioned, I was impressed with Colborne using his size last night and making some nice hard checks and plays along the boards. Dougie threw some nice ones too. If he can continue that he's going to be a force.

Hamilton has a great wrist shot.
There is no question that Wideman has a great shot. The difference for me is that Hamilton is more mobile and gets himself into better locations. He is simply a more dynamic player. And his shot is good enough that keeping Wideman there just because of his shot, isn't warranted.

I would say that's easy to see that Hamilton is being utilized for his much better defensive game and less ice time on the pp means he's fresh to defend. Wideman on the pp is much less risky than Wideman in the defensive zone. I would say that's the plan.

I think Hamilton got slashed and that is why he was a little ornery last night. I liked it a lot. Slash him every game if he is going to throw hits like that around.
A more physical D is high on my Christmas wish list.

The Hamilton thing for me is more than velocity. He has a better awareness of lanes than Wideman so there's less off the chin pads. Additionally, the biggest problem with the Flames powerplay this year is the players being too stationary, nobody is moving. Hamilton is always moving.
Man add in his physical play last night and Hamilton is becoming a complete stud back there.
He needs more first unit powerplay time though.

Hamilton at 22 is really accelerating his comfort level to the Flames in a big fricken hurry.
With him there's the saying, that you can't wait to see what kind of defenseman he's going to be in his prime. I think he will eventually surpass Brodie in a lot of ways.

Wideman's strength last year was finding all sorts of lanes to the net, or at least the hard pass for a deflection. This year though, yes he is throwing everything into guys' chin pads and it's annoying.
Dougie really plays smart in the offensive zone. I think he'll end up around 40 points again this season, despite the quasi-rocky start.

Wideman was really good at getting the shots through last season, which is I think typical for players with high hockey IQ. I don't get why it's so difficult for him this season.

To me, its because he's not moving his feet at the level that he was last year.

Besides Johnny, how many other players have had two or more hat tricks this year?

Oh look, another hat-trick for Gaudreau.
Their one and only good player is sure carrying them.

Because 20 year old 30 goal scorers like Monahan aren't good players. Nor is TJ Brodie, Dougie Hamilton, or Mark Giordano. And that Bennett kid is no good too.
