Any "ire" isn't directed at any of the companies, whether they're the one selling the toy licensing rights for hundreds of millions of dollars or buying the licensing rights for hundreds of millions of dollars. If anything, it's directed at the cynicism that the decision to make a woman the central character was made in order to sell toys, when it's clear that any of the companies involved aren't very interested in selling toys to girls.

Well just got back from seeing it......sure had an original trilogy feel, I liked it and enjoyed some subtle things.
Biggest stand out for me was hearing Obi-wan call to Rei during her force vision, I had to confirm that's what I heard when I got home.
I want Snooke to be darth plagueis but that does change his species from the old cannon of being a Munn.
Liked the more brutal style of Kylo with his saber, and his constant spaz moments.
My big question is what's Obi-wans connection to Rei for him to be the one to reach out to her??? Unless he's just a very active force ghost with a link to Anakin's / Luke's Saber.

I really enjoyed Kylo Ren. The actor did a great job showing that he was still struggling between dark and light, trying to fight the pull to the light. I have high hopes for the next movie, I hope he can pull it off. Hayden C did such a terrible job in the prequels. For this movie I think the character was played perfectly. I noticed a comment on here about the general not respecting him and I immediately thought about Vader, who was well beyond Ren in training in ANH and was still subservient to Tarkin.
I loved the 'twist' of Rey being the new hope and not Finn (not really a twist once in the context of the whole movie, but definitely not what was promoted). I bought into the trailer that showed Finn with the lightsaber. It never even crossed my mind the hero was actually a heroine, she was so solid in that role and was my favorite new character.

saw the movie last night, enjoyed it, with the exception of a couple of things that really bothered me:
1. why is there space travel and driods and vehicles that float, but the people of jakkuu still live in huts?
2. after rey returns to the village from scrounging why does she park her vehicle so far away, and then carry all that crap?
3. how did finn get cleaned up, he was sweating up a storm while wandering around jakkuu, but for the rest of the film he seems fresh
4. do you think luke was just waiting there for rey, or was he watching tv five minutes before she got tot eh top of the the staircase/mtn?
ridiculous that these items were not addressed - it will likely mean that i only watch this movie 4 times maximum

I definitely do not want to nit pick too much. It was an outstanding film to watch. So happy that Star Wars is back for several years to come.

- Kylo Ren got shot with Chewbaca's bow caster and was injured quite badly (they made several points at remarking how powerful the bow caster is before he got shot), they show him bleeding badly before he fights Fin and he keeps hitting himself to pump himself up. Fin was also a combat trained storm trooper.
- On the second point, was the Resistance not on the same Planet as Maz's temple at the end? that's definitely the impression I got when Leah was hugging Rey after they got back from Starkiller Base.

It was nice to see them treat the Bowcaster as the badass weapon it is (loved it knocking fools back upon impact), EU me seems to remember that humans couldn't handle it though. But I'm still good with them letting Han take a few shots and be smitten with it.

Nope, different planets. In Maz's temple two separate characters call the respective groups (The Resistance and First Order) to tell them that Rey and company are there.

Well, I will say that after a day, my contrarian streak has faded a bit, and I am starting to feel a bit more fondly about the film. I will probably go see it again today haha.
Revised score - 6.5/10. Super nostalgia piece. Basically, a lesser remake of New Hope.

Well Luke is a master Jedi and force sensitive.
Very likely that he would have A) Heard and felt the Falcon approaching his remote island that nobody had visited for years, B) Felt that another force sensitive individual was on the island.
Lots of time for him to put on some clothes and go up to the top of the mountain.

In response to Rey missing from that toy set, recall that it is only one toy set.
Walk into any Disney Store or Toys R Us, there are no shortage of Rey or Captain Phasma toys.

You sound like negative nancy polak in the hockey threads. In case you didn't notice, A New Hope kicked ass. Why fix what ain't broke is my response.

And they revealed R2 anyway so all is well. I totally need that toy.

I loved the movie, but the ANH parallels did bother me a bit. As time goes by, it's bothering me less. This movie was a reset for the fanbase. Hit all the touchstones, give familiarity, introduce the new gang and start assembling them as a family. I'm also pretty impressed by the feint they pulled in all the marketing which totally made it seem like Finn was the new Jedi to be.
When they have to make a new one, it will be interesting to see the direction. I'm still hoping for a Thrawn. I mean, Thrawn can work for the First Order right?

I have yet to see Rey or Phasma in either Toys R Us or the Disney store (aside from the die cast metal figures) I was able to snag the two Kylo Ren (the Kenner/Hasbro)figures at Superstore of all places.

This is an important point.
A lot of people seem to think Vader was second in command of the entire Empire and that's not true. In the actual original scripts and notes, he is outranked by several Moffs/Grand Moffs (even though he could probably have just killed them all). Vader is still subservient to the political/military order that Palpatine created, especially as a check against Vaders' own powers and ambitions.
The same is here for Kylo Ren. He is tolerated but lower on the totem pole in the First Order, mirroring Vader's situation as a check put in place by Snoke, not to mention his junior position and incomplete training.

Don't ever compare me to polak.
Nah, I mean, it was an ok movie. There was nothing original or interesting about it. It was just fun Christmas eye candy. There were some good characters. I am glad there were because without decent casting this movie would have been awful.

1. Poverty dude. It's universal!
2. She didn't want to pay for parking.
3. At least his shirt didn't change color in the middle of the film because of "dirt" like in Die Hard. I still can't watch that movie because of it.
4. He sat on the Island and got fat but foresaw the future and was working out for 6 months to be able to barely fit into his Jedi suit again.
