I personally love it. I don't have kids, but all I could think of leaving is how cool that must have been for the parents taking their young girls to the movie. It's fairly rare to have strong female role models that don't rely on their sexuality for power.
It's equally cool for young boys to be exposed to women who are generally badass and portray their worth outside of T&A.
This isn't about being PC at all. It's about healthy gender roles being portrayed in a blockbuster film. It's ####ing awesome.

Totally agree. Took my girls yesterday. The 11 year old had a lightsaber and Leia side buns in her hair. All her idea. Guy in line complimented me as a an "awesome dad". I'll take it when I can get it. Between this and supergirl TV show, my daughters are really getting into action/sci-fi.

I am continually impressed by how completely this film went to reject CG in favour of classic techniques as both an homage to the originals and as a statement of the validity of tangible special effects.
The chess table scene in the movie was created by stop motion animation!

Everyone in here is arguing about Rey being PC and Kylo being too "emo" and I'm just sitting here waiting for CaptainCrunch's opinion on the movie

Then we'll spend 14 pages of this thread analyzing his analysis

There are many many CG effects in the movie, the difference is they didn't reject nearly all practical effects and set building like Lucas did.

This decision cost the life of the legendary Han Solo and the lives of hundreds of Resistance fighters, all because he was feeling emo.
Also, the other scumbag award goes to the First Order. How do you have the map to Skywalker (minus the part that BB-8 had), and not just use your dumb ships to go map out that missing section of the map yourself? What is this, amateur hour? Clean it up, First Order.

Even if they did have the map, didn't Solo and the rebels have to go to Star Killer to disable it and save the planet they were on?

I say we make him read all 22 pages(and counting) of this thread before he can make an analysis, just so he doesn't repeat anything we already discussed
That's the penalty for being a latey McLate Crunch. Good on him for the restraint, though.

I got to see it this morning.. I loved it.
Interesting to see comments of people unhappy with Kylo being Emo, and parts of the final duel.
I didn't see him as Emo, but more torn. It's like a personality disorder when the crazed side is attempting to take over. I actually thought it was well executed.
And for the final battle, he's powerful, but very raw still. Everything from his light sabre to his control. Even Vader had control over himself and focused his evil. That was clearly a man gripped by rage. Rey has innate ability. I liked how it went down.
As for Rey. What a cool character. I loved her constantly trying to shake Finn holding her hand.
Overall, I liked how they focused on the characters, and how the transition would happen from the old to the new regime.
The prequels were preoccupied with trying to tell the grand story of the transformation of Vader, but didn't focus on character.
The nods to the original trilogy were a bit over the top, but I appreciated some of it: like the garbage chute.
Very excited for the next series of movies.

To be fair. They probably didn't put that much focus on Rey during promotion to try to keep her being a jedi under raps.

She's not a Jedi, though I understand what you mean. There's also no Captain Phasma figure in that set. Must have wanted to keep her under wraps too.

That`s pretty close to how I saw it as well and I really liked Kylo`s portrayal. This is a largely undeveloped character which I really like. We`ll get to see a dark side user being brought up from a young age as a sith/dark side user, which we haven`t really seen before.
I thought they showed that he has a lot of untapped power and potential but still lacks the control and focus to put it all together. Now that he`s actually killed his father he has taken a big step towards killing his past and inner conflict. As for the final fight he`s still clearly unfocused (killing your dad will do that), and was heavily wounded by Chewie. He dispatched Finn pretty quickly but was bleeding out and had trouble when faced with someone strong in the force.
I don`t really get the comparisons with Darth Vader or Maul, there isn`t really any to be made. Maul was a fully trained Sith assassin when we saw him. He had learned everything Sideous was ever going to teach him and had actually been combat tested.
The Vader we saw at the beginning of episode 4 was a fully trained Jedi turned Sith lord. He was battle hardened, had fought and killed both Sith lords and Jedi and had lost everything that was dear to him. He was an efficient, merciless, raging hate machine of destruction. So I didn`t expect a young, raw dark side user to have the same presence as those two. It doesn`t really make sense to. Chances are Kylo Ren doesn`t even have much experience against other force sensitives using lightsabers at this point.
The important thing I think they showed is that he at times projects real menace and power. I`m looking forward to seeing him develop after his next round of training.

That goes without saying. He absolutely needs to read all our theories so he can weigh in on them.
He chose to be an Internet celebrity. With it comes responsibly.... much like a Jedi

It's also missing Han, but has Chewie. I'm guessing there are either varying sets, or the presumed most popular toys are only sold separately.
At least I hope that's what it is.

You don't know she isn't, though I understand what you mean
Weird you're knocking Disney for that set though. If you weren't aware, Hasbro paid over $200 million for the rights to the Star Wars toys, that's one of their sets, and it's a Target exclusive.
I could see slamming Hasbro... MAYBE Target... but Disney has zero say in how Hasbro designs their toy sets.
There are in fact sets out there with Rey, and plenty of standalone figures of both Rey and Phasma.
Non-issue, and the ire isn't even being properly directed were it a real issue anyway.

Lots of Rey girls clothing and Princess Leia build a bear.
It's great though that these types of decisions are being made for marketing reasons. Typically the Hollywood reasons for not casting women and minorities in lead roles is that those movies do not perform as well and aren't as attractive to international markets.

I was looking for the black series Kylo Ren Helmet, but alas, I came too late to the party. High prices, sold out at legit places such as Toys R Us.
