Also, I think you underrate Ellis.

Ellis is 5th on the Pred's depth chart. He's good but trapped. I'm not sure he's the type that Edmonton needs though.
I'd never trade Jones, especially for an underweight, injury prone second line centre.

If Nashville really was dangling Jones for a centerman, there are better options than RNH. I'd rather go for Johanson or Stamkos (pending agreed longterm extension).

Ellis is not the type of defenseman the Oilers need as he's more of a 4/5th PP specialist. Jones for RNH would be poor value for the Predators though. The Oilers would have to sweeten the deal even at that though Jones isn't at the stage of his career where he's going to step in and make a big difference for the Oilers. They need a player that's further along in his development such as Hamonic.

I believe in the Pony Power

If I were looking at RNH I'd be worried about his progression. I also don't know how intent the Preds are of trading Jones. I think they seem him as a cornerstone piece.

Preds could use some star forward scoring. Johansen maybe, or Stamkos makes way more sense than 'the tenderness'
lol just saw this, and I agree! :

Watch RNH go a team with defensive structure and NHL quality defenders and become a 70 point player.

Can't see Poille being dumb enough to trade Jones for RNH.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Poile was also struck by a puck a few years ago, and if cartoons have taught us anything....

Which ended up being the pick we selected Jankowski with. 21st overall for Gaustad probably is a bit steep but not as steep as Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat. I think Poille is arguably one of the best GM's in the league and seeing as a trade of Jones to Edmonton would help our biggest rival I'm going to continue to assume he would never make such a terrible trade as Jones for RNH.

Preds also traded a 1st for 2 role players in Santorelli and Fransen.
Not sure what the Preds will do but in the next year I see them moving a D for a forward

RNH also comes with a fixed $6 million contract for the next 5 years (both cap hit and salary are $6 Million). Johansen has a cap hit of $4 Million next season, but an actual salary of $6 Million, after which it's contract time starting at $6 Million. As a signing Stamkos will be far above both of those.
I could be wrong but I think Nashville is one of the "internal budget" teams. If this is the case RNH could be more desirable than the other two based on contract and being able to use the money elsewhere or to acquire/re-sign other players.
Contract obviously isn't the only factor in acquiring a player, but the certainty may play a part.

Longest-serving does not necessarily equate to "one of the best".

To be technical I think a low shooting percentage means he has no trouble hitting the goalie, not the net.

His preds have made the playoffs 7/10 seasons since the implementation of the salary cap, despite having to stay within an internal budget and continuously rebuild from within.
Pretty impressive if you ask me.
Look at the D they draft and develop over and over again because they struggle to keep them long term due to the internal budget.

Personally I think the Preds should move Weber over Josi or Jones. They can get out of that huge contract and keep their younger players around. Weber for RNH, Yak, 1st would be an interesting trade. They get 2 former 1st overalls and a potentially high 1st. They move forward with a core of RHN, Jones, Forsberg, Josi, Yak, Ellis, Rinne. Oilers get their number 1 D and next captain but take on that contract and Weber is going to be 32 next season

Exactly. The guy doesn't have a single first-overall pick on his resume.
Just filling time.

Considering they only have to pay Weber 30 million over the next 8 years I have no idea why they would do that trade. They would have to pay RNH the same amount over 5 years and he sucks. Weber is only costing them 3.75 million a year after this season.
