Could or couldn't? Care less or careless?
Just trying to clarify here.

If this is who Monahan hired I fear for his election bid.

Never been a fan of the big soft types (see Bouwmeester, Jay), so Colborne isn't one of my favorites. Didn't think he was all that terrible in this one, though. Monahan was worse in my estimation.

The snark is strong in this thread.....
Nevertheless, the Wings got great goaltending when they needed it and capitalized on a couple mistakes...
I'll take the 4 pt. on this trip, thanks.

They were both pretty horrible. Turnovers all night from both of them which possibly cost us the game.

They didn't, and it cost them another two points.
Horrible effort in the second. Looked like they couldn't wait to get back home while Detroit looked like they actually wanted to win a hockey game.
Sad.

That's exactly what I saw too they were getting fancy and not protecting the puck even in our own end. They played hard but got sloppy as the game went on.

For me it's not so much this game (though losing the puck along the boards like that at the end was frustrating), it's that he gets put in positions he's not good at simply because he's big. I wouldn't call him particularly soft either. He goes to the difficult areas and fights along the boards well. He's just so ineffectual yet gets pp time and at the end of the game. All the pp time he gets and he's so useless on it. Late in the game we need a tying goal and you throw him over the boards? Blech
People say he is used for possession, but possession is the cycle game and strong sticks defensively. He's not that at all. Not in the least. When you never possess the puck on a shift is hard to call someone a possession player

Gaudreau was pretty good tonight. Didn't mind Hudler, Jones, Raymond, Jooris, Ferland. Wasn't one of Stajan's better games, but didn't like Colborne (and I usually do). Granlund didnt make much of an impact and while Backlund tried stuff, he was just not quite on. Bennett I thought had a couple decent offensive plays, but he does tend to try the same move a lot (it worked once tonight). He was also letting guys skate past his position pretty easily in the D zone.

Worst game I've seen them play for a while. They just weren't able to think the game at an NHL level pace.
Hopefully they can pull out a win and refocus with 6 days at home playing only 1 game.

Mrazek is a stud, Wings are lucky to have him. Too bad we had that 2nd period, but lets go home and start another win streak.

Came in to say that I just don't see what Colborne brings. Simple play to tip the puck in at the end and screws it up and it's in the back of our net.

The Flames really need a couple of Regehr type players on the team rather than 5 or 6 Gio's who don't want to hit anyone in their own zone and who just want to pad their points total. That second period basically summarized what the Flames were in the first 20 games at the start of this season.

Amazing how Detroit manages to defy the draft odds and keep a competitive team without any top 15 picks. They look as strong as ever just when people were ready to count them out in the last couple years.
