4th period had an article on 5 trades they'd like to see and had Hudler to TB for JT Brown and Boston 2016 2nd rounder. 23 year old RW. Doesn't look too productive as his highest points in an NHL season was 19.
One interesting thing about Stamkos is he reportedly wants to play C, but Dreger and LeBrun say all the GMs they talked to think Stamkos is best suited for RW.

He can be Johnny Hockeys Centre if he agrees to a 8m deal.

That is a piss poor return.

It is. Kind of... if you take into consideration that if the trade happened today that might be one of the best offers out there. If it was last season while Hudler was rolling like he was, yeah, terrible return.
Personally I would prefer a slightly higher rated prospect than Brown but the 2nd rounder is a good addition.
That's a better return than what was offered for Cammalleri.
Probably on par with the Glencross return.
However, I don't think the Flames need JT Brown, more of the same of what they already have. I'd ask for an additional second rounder instead.
I really think expectations should be lowered for a Hudler return. It won't be big and if the team is in the playoff hunt, they probably won't even move him because the return won't be worth it.
I could see Russell getting moved because Smid seems to have found his game again and the team would probably like to bring Nakladal up as the 7th.

It will be interesting to see what Treliving does if the Flames are in a playoff spot or extremely close at the deadline. Last year he moved Glencross because Glennie was pushed out of the top 6 and it was clear he and the team were ready to move on. I believe he was moved to make room for Ferland which turned out to be a great decision as Ferly was a beast in the playoffs.
With Hudler I currently do not see a forward that can take his spot in the top 6. In fact I think this team needs to add a top 6 forward. Both Hudler and Jones find themselves as the top 2 RW on the team now so this will be an interesting deadline.
The Flames do have defensive depth where I could see Russell shipped out of the return is right. Smid has come back and looked pretty good and he also adds size which is needed against the Kings/Ducks who are the likely teams the Flames would have to face in the first couple of rounds of they make it.
Having said all of that if Hudler can somehow get a 1st round pick the Flames need to pull the trigger as another 1st is a huge asset to take to the draft

^^I think the only way to replace Hudler on this roster is to upgrade on him.
So would you trade our 1st for an upgrade on Hudler?
In return would you then ship Hudler off for a later 1st? Or Jones for a 2nd and 3rd (Glenncross type deal)?
Or then do you keep all three RW's for some insane depth and a chance to go for the playoffs? Go big or go home.
I don't see the Flames trading their first again this year especially in the middle of the season. I could see them holding on to Hudler but moving Jones and Russell replacing them internally.
IMO, with a change of scenery, Stamkos would absolutely light up the NHL once again.
While I think Cooper sometimes outsmarts himself you can't argue that the results of his tenure in TB have been very good including making it to the finals last season. Some of Stamkos best statistical seasons happened on bad Lightning teams so maybe Stamkos has to choose between playing a team game and winning or going the Phil Kessel route and collecting great stats on a loser. It he wants to go for the stats then Toronto is probably the best place for him as he will get worshipped for being a high paid, high scoring loser.
