How is 14 points in 16 games barely hanging on? While under the thumb of a drug addiction? Let's not go and create false narratives now to fortify ones stance on not wanting a player to play in CGY.

Also, When the hell did 30 become old and washed up?
What I am saying is, if he has re-habed properly and is healthy, I feel like he deserves a shot. If the Flames bring him in on a PTO, it'll be like Doug Murray, no harm no foul.
I still feel like Richards has a bit more left in the tank.

Age is less important than "is the player washed up" to which the answer is yes in this case. Setoguchi was even younger. Sometimes they're done at the top level earlier than you expect. Look at the rest of the draft class, Horton's retired in all but name, you have others there who have long since been pushed out of the NHL. How many good years do Dustin Brown, Kesler, Phaneuf have left.

How is he washed up? Two seasons ago he had 41 points and a decent playoff run. If he cleaned his act up off ice, I think he can get back to that form. Obviously he's not gonna be an 80 point Selke finalist again, but he doesn't need to do that to play in the NHL.

Because he had a massive drop off and couldn't play for the LA Kings anymore. He was behind the play, too slow and too ineffective.
I've seen this story 100 times, these guys don't come back from addiction and suddenly re-enter their prime. When they're done they're done

Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
McKenzie: "I do know some teams were sniffing around (Tinordi)." #Habs "might have been looking for a body back" at a different position.
Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
McKenzie: But I had heard same thing, that a second round pick might have been going rate for Tinordi. Don't know if that has changed. #Habs
Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
McKenzie: Not sure if #Habs were still hedging their bets on not wanting to pull trigger on Tinordi deal, or if offers haven't been suitable

what evidence do you have that Mike Richards is an addict?
Is he even in the NHLPA/NHL Substance Abuse program?
Just because he was stopped at the border and was charged, doesn't mean that he is an addict.
Secondly being an addict isn't like he lost his left arm. While his ability to play hockey has come into questions, if being an addict was a determinant to performance, half the Pro Leagues would be in trouble.

I agree completely. Talking about Tinordi is far preferable to talking about Eklund.
Tinordi is at or nearly NHL ready, and is essentially a 6'6 Super-Smid on the left side. Physical, big hits, drop the gloves, heavy shot non-spectacular crease clearer. Bottom pairing guy on a good team.
If Montreal is looking for a utility guy that can play up and down the roster and not get lost, we do have a couple of those. Tinordi and Nakladal stepping in for Russell and Wideman would be all kinds of awesome from my perspective. Nice set up for next year.

What would it take to get him? A couple of prospects and a roster player? More?
If it was really a 2nd it would be done by now, no?
Would Colborne, Jooris and Russell be over payment (taking the qty approach to free up roster spots)? Maybe Byron could come back too.

The value is at a high second round pick, but what they want is a roster player with that value. Looking at their roster, a centre/winger comfortable on lines 1 through 3 is what they would want. A Semin replacement with a good attitude.
So Jooris plus a 3rd or 4th or Granlund plus a 4th or 5th is probably where they are at. They clearly want a forward, as if they wanted a defenceman, they would give Tinordi a serious look before trading him.
Tinordi isn't cheap, but not out of reach either. Other teams will make offers.
Edit : on second glance, they are in desperate need of a top 9 RW. Byron is holding down the second line with Gallagher out.

McKenzie: Stamkos contract "not close to being signed. As I understand it, negotiations are virtually nowhere right now." #TBLightning
McKenzie: I don't know that they've exchanged proposals. I don't know that either side has put a number on the table. #TBLightning #Stamkos
A year ago I never thought a player like Stamkos would be available in his prime. Moving closer to that possibility

Personally I don't think Stamkos wants to be there.
I think he tests the free agent market unless they are going to make him the highest paid player in the league.
If you are Tampa Bay are you better with Stamkos at $10+ million cap hit, or with that cap money to spend elsewhere + the King's Ransom you would get in return for him at the trade deadline.
In this cap era they may be better suited to try to reinvest that money.

He's got a NMC though I think. Plus they wanna win the cup. If he leaves, I think it's far more likely be plays the season out as that's probably what both sides would want

How is Stamkos doing these days?
I went to watch the Flames Lightning game in Tampa and despite him scoring he looked awful.
Wasn't he pretty terrible in the playoffs last year too?

I can't agree with this at all.
I would hazard to guess there are far more examples of guys coming back from addiction issues and succeeding than you're aware of because most of the people dealing with addiction issues are doing so privately and are not publicizing the success of failure of their treatment or support.
There are also plenty of examples of guys in the NHL coming back and having success after getting support for their issues. I think for most guys who make it through treatment, they emerge as both better players and teammates as well as better individuals.
A guy like McGrattan, who used drugs and alcohol as a means of coping with his role as a fighter in the league, came back from treatment a better player and a better fighter, more resolute in the understanding of his role and ready to embrace the off ice necessities of forging a career for himself.
Playing a guy like that is much harder than playing a party boy who may or may not be on that night.
Just look are Ribeiro this season. Or Michael Ferland.
I think most of the drug and alcohol success stories in the NHL aren't publicized.

I don't think addiction (whether that's the case for him or not, crass to speculate imo) is the problem for Richards.
It's his inability to keep up with the pace and the miles on him for his style of play.

I don't necessarily advocate bringing Richards back but I don't think speculation on a substance abuse problem is an effective means of arguing against it.
