Also, Bobrovsky sustained an injury Tuesday night. I doubt they would be looking at McElhinney as a long term solution if he is out for a while.

I hope Brad is dangling Hiller.

Columbus is out of the playoff race already. I doubt they want an expensive goaltender like Hiller. Have to think there are cheaper options for them. They will probably look internally.

If the BJ's are out of the playoffs, then so are the Flames? If they think he can string together some wins, Hiller might be a good option for them.

BJ's are 13 out of third in their division, 7 out of WC and no games in hand.
Flames are 4 out of 3rd in their division with 2 games in hand.

Flames are in the Pacific and 4 points out of playoffs with games in hand. Columbus last i checked were 9 points out of a playoff spot. It's only because the flames are in the Pacific that they have a chance. Hell going into the 3rd period last night the flames were last in the entire league.

The season isn't over, the BJ's can make it if they turn things around. I think they need a goalie better than McBackup to do anything though. 9 points isn't that big of a deal in half a season. Maybe the get another Hamburgler or something and go on an insane winning streak.
The Flames look like they've turned things around, why can't another team?

Sorry I disagree with you, seems like about 25% of his blocks are him actually looking at the shooter or actually laying out. 75% are because he is on the ice for 20 minutes a game (mostly in his own end) standing in front of his net trying, and failing, to move a forward out of the way or scrambling around because he can't box out and dudes just run by him.
My initial post was probably heavy on the smart @$$ but doesn't change my opinion. I don't tend to throw players under the bus but Russell should be converted to forward, he is not an NHL defenseman IMO.
Edit: As a defenseman you probably don't want to be known as the shot block leader of the entire league, do you? Maybe it's just me but I would think that's a title you wouldn't want.

You risk throwing off the chemistry of the team with your two brightest stars last year in Monahan and Johnny but getting rid of Huds on the first line ?. Also, you only paid a guy 4 mill that scored 70+ points. No secret Gaudreau and Monahan helped revived Hudler and got his juices going again- there is no saying that it wouldn't continue into the next season again playing with the two kids as Hudler isn't that old.
But to say you would let a guy who scored 70 pts last year, maybe only 50 this year, who is a Stanley Cup Champ with experience and leadership, is mentoring your next stars on the team, is still gifted offensively on a bargain contract walk for peaunuts ? Peanuts ? I am glad BT is the GM and understands the game. Yikes.
|
Are you implying that trading him is the equivalent of 'letting him walk for peanuts'? Kind of confused by what you mean here. Hopefully the management of a re-building team values draft picks/prospects as more than 'peanuts'. Otherwise the Flames will likely be rebuilding for a good long time yet.
Honestly, if Monahan and Gaudreau can't get over losing Hudler... I don't know what to say. Personally I think they would both be fine but you never know I suppose. If they weren't fine, I guess that would just mean they aren't as good as I thought they were.

We're likely not going to be able to afford Hudler and he'll be 32 when his next contract kicks in. People want to see him traded because he won't fit the cap structure going forward and he's on the wrong side of 30. It's not the stock market, it's just the type of move re-building teams make every single season, in every single sport. If the Oilers can get a 1st for David Perron, imagine what the Flames could've gotten for Hudler at the draft after the season he had? It's like some of you think it would be a good idea to just let him go for nothing or sign him for 4 or 5 years @ $5m+ per year (because that's what it will take) because of 'chemistry'. Well, I have unfortunate news. Hudler's not going to be a Flame at some point and it's up to BT to manage that asset. Retaining him (unless it's 3 years or less) or letting him go for nothing would both be terrible moves IMO.

The poster he quoted said that you just let him walk for peanuts after this year, and basically that he is untradeable now.

If Hiller goes to the BJ's then I'm starting my own rumor website...don't worry, I'll give a CP discount.

Why would the Leafs, who are looking to get rid of a goalie, trade for a goalie?
(and also Bernier +???)
