That there are judgments made, at all, on attendance at "optional" skates, just demonstrates the hypocrisy of even having "optional" skates...

Brad's job will be to minimize our exposure to Semin. Nothing good could possibly 'come' of it.

It's not that big of a difference. If it was still the top eight in the Conference going to the playoffs, the Flames would be 6 points out right now, instead of 5.

He broke the record for most shots blocked in a season as a "the puck hit him" kinda guy? Seems....unlikely. You can argue whether blocking lots of shots in your own end indicative of a good hockey player or not, but to imply that he just accidentally blocks that many shots is pretty ridiculous.

I think that is a little early. I understand it is generally 10 day prior to the NHL freeze date, which is usually around Dec. 19. Should be in the next few days.

Burke gives an extra 2 weeks from the NHL trade freeze which is Dec 19 if I recall correctly. Meaning the Flames trade freeze began on Dec 5.

Well, I'm going off of what Brian Burke has done with his team's over his career. I've seen no reason to believe anything has changed. He has always made an internal trade freeze for his team's on American Thanksgiving.

He has never done it since American Thanksgiving... quick google search says 10 days or 2 weeks extra.

Russell on the other hand is a young blocking machine. Maybe it's for the best he's having an off year, sign him multi for cheap and at the very least if you want to trade him later a # of team would take him for the playoffs.
|
So let me get this straight... BT should of traded Hudler after a career year, helping along Gaudreau and Monahan (all feeding off eachother- awesome chemistry) with leadership, mentoring and skill and you figure BT should of ripped that out of the equation at the end of last year ?
You risk throwing off the chemistry of the team with your two brightest stars last year in Monahan and Johnny but getting rid of Huds on the first line ?. Also, you only paid a guy 4 mill that scored 70+ points. No secret Gaudreau and Monahan helped revived Hudler and got his juices going again- there is no saying that it wouldn't continue into the next season again playing with the two kids as Hudler isn't that old.
But to say you would let a guy who scored 70 pts last year, maybe only 50 this year, who is a Stanley Cup Champ with experience and leadership, is mentoring your next stars on the team, is still gifted offensively on a bargain contract walk for peaunuts ? Peanuts ? I am glad BT is the GM and understands the game. Yikes.

I think sometimes people confuse hockey trades with the stock market.

As far a Russell goes.. there is a reason he has to block so many shots..
http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/t...-kris-russell/
I am not a huge fan of corsi in some respects, but this is something I could actually understand. While he is a shot blocking machine, he is also the the dman who has poor possession stats, and finds himself hemmed in his own zone a lot due to this and the other team seems to have the most shots on our goalie with him on the ice. Worth a read.

Uh, yeah, we've already had a thread about that article. Consensus: it's garbage by an Oiler fanboy.

I think Hudler will get better. Seemed really fired up during the Boston game and equalizing it late. Haven't seen that emotion out of Hudler yet so maybe he's ready to finally play now.
He's 25 games (or less cause he missed time) removed from being the top offensive performer on the team for a couple seasons. A player doesn't simply decline to something else over 25 games nor should his value. There's a lot he can bring to this team right now and he has the ability to do so.
Just look at Cammalleri to see what smaller skill/high IQ guys can do into their 30s. Too bad Cammy's interest seemed to waver a bit here towards the end. Seems to be what's happened with Hudler to start the season but if he re-stokes that fire he can be deadly again.

With Leafs Nation ready to build a Garret Sparks statue after he has won 3 of 4 it will be interesting to see what Leafs brass decide to do about their 3 headed goalie monster. To make things more interesting Bernier has 2 shutouts in his conditioning stint with the Marlies.
I wonder what BT would be willing to give up for Bernier. We need a Starter for next year and Bernier is under contract through next year. I know there is a trade freeze right now so unless we move picks we wont see anything until the new year anyways but if the ask is reasonable you almost have to go for it.
