Others have said it better as to why, but I just don't see it this year, at least not with this current roster.

Find a halfway decent goalie (although Ramo was really good last game), and we'll talk. Until then...nope.

The last two games were fun and entertaining, but I still don't see them making the playoffs. The Flames still need to play better in their own end. And they need a goaltender who can win them some games. Ramo/Hiller combo has not been very good.

I appreciate the optimism but I think this is a bit of a cocky thread, or at least the opening post is.

Sure, those things like San Jose crumbling and Arizona falling to the bottom could very well come true. I agree that Vancouver isn't better than us and Edmonton is no good, but the Flames still have a long way to go. I want to see a couple of games get strung together with consistency from them before I start thinking, "Hm, maybe?" again. Nice showing against the Bruins after the Stars game, the Flames have usually failed at that next step after a good game this year and I'd like to see them keep taking these steps.

Remember that last year we were the ones that weren't supposed to make the playoffs. And maybe, just maybe Arizona will be the underdog this year and be the one to make it.

Wow, it's amazing what a two game winning streak can do.

The Flames are lucky to be 10-14-2. Could easily be a 4 or 5 win team right now. They can play their way back into this but I think missing the playoffs by 20 points is a much more likely scenario. #neverquit

The flip side to that argument can be made - the Flames are unlucky to be 10-14-2 and should have won those games against the Lightning, Panthers, Jets, Avs, Sens, Coyotes and Habs, most of them in regulation as they were the better team in each. Then they would be 17-9-0 right now and feeling awesome about themselves.

In reality the Flames are 10-14-2 right now. They're neither unlucky to be there nor lucky to be there. For everything they've had go right, they've had things go hilariously wrong from goaltending fails to nervous breakdowns from experienced veterans to being without our #1D for October.

Looking forward there's no real way to predict whether they're 20-19-2 at the midway point of the season or 14-23-4. That's why we watch the games.

Wouldn't rule it out completely, but if it happens it'll be more because a team in front of the Flames falters, not because the Flames take it and run with it.

This year, and with the new playoff format, any of the bottom feeders can still jolt ahead with a nice little winning streak.

The Flames need some sustained success. Not 2 game streaks

Hamilton has improved vastly and Giordano is slightly getting better, if those continue to happen and our goaltending improves immensely it will be really exciting down the stretch.

I Still have very very little faith in our goaltending though, and it will more than likely cost us. Here's hoping Ramo gets red hot.

If the Flames upgrade their goaltending, there's a chance.

Its theoretical possible I guess, but in my opinion there is a long way to go before I would consider it at all likely to happen.

3) Vancouver is not better than us and by game 50 it will be proven
4) Edmonton are just "no good"

That leaves the 3 teams that most thought at seasons start in the playoffs.

Until the flames learn how to play special teams there is very little chance. Pk and pp is super important in this league. Being 29th and 30th in the league is beyond terrible. This team seems like it would be built for power play success, but unfortunately the organization has too much loyalty to gelinas to fire him..

Alright, but if we go on a losing streak these next few games, we all know who to blame.

gods we get a 4 game win streak this season and we'll see threads of plan the parade for the cup win. Laughs there's optimisim and then there's reality. I would love to see Flames in the playoffs this season.Honestly I don't think it's in the cards.

I'm not as optimistic, but I still have faith. I think by the end of this month we will get a clear picture. They have all the home games and I see improvement especially on the back end. Gio is coming around, Hamilton has been great for a bit and I've really liked Smid on the third pairing. Special teams needs to get going no question though. If they put together a solid month and start the new year just a few points out then I really think they will have a good chance.
