Kreider would be awesome but I'm sure price will be pretty high.

I think you're thinking of Kevin Hayes who also plays for the Rangers

Kreider played with him on the same team, but the didn't play together as a line.

That is a genuine, legitimate top 6 defense. Possibly the best in the NHL.

It would be too bad to give anything up for Schlemko since he was available for quite a while for free in July. Either way, I'll take anything. This would be a playoff team with competent defense and goaltending...

Say what you will about the goaltending, but a simple Russell for Schlemko swap should not make a -29 goal differential team the best D in the league

I'm not sure where to post this. So I will post it here.
I know most of us were plannin up until this year for matching contracts for Monahan and Johnny. I believe most of us were in the 5.5-7 Mill range of mind. However Johnny is proving to be on a different level than Monahan. If it continues like this for the season, I don't see how they get matching contracts ? Maybe Johnny gets his long term, and Mony gets a bridge ? What you guys think would happen ?

First of all this team hasn't been that bad since Wideman was put on the bottom pair. Most of our -29 came with Russell-Wideman bleeding goals against while Hamilton looked like he couldn't cut it in the OHL. Second most of that was early goaltending and generally being a terrible possession team. Schlemko is a very good possession defenseman and he's proving this year he can do that in a top 4 role too.

Unless you're Cheerio, you still have a ways to go to get into the conversation of having the best top 6 in the league by simply adding Schlemko.

- Best top 3 defenseman group in the NHL.
-#4 defenseman who has already looked good in our system in a #5 role, who is solid defensively, somewhat physical, and really good at carrying the puck with his great stickhandling as well as having a knack for holding the puck in at the blue line.
- #5 defenseman right hand shot who is capable of 50+ points and is flat out a luxury to have.
- #6 defenseman who is healthy and looking like the #4 defenseman he used to be before the Oilers broke him.
- #7 defenseman who is having a hell of a great season himself.
Right now, the Flames have one hole, and that's Kris Russell. Not only does he not score a whole lot relative to his ice time for a so-called puck moving D, he's simultaneously a possession black hole and that has a trickle-down effect. It forces Gio and Brodie to have to start more and more shifts defensively, the need to shelter Russell often eats into what should be bottom pair sheltering, and it generally kills momentum. Look how good the Flames have looked against the Blackhawks and the Bruins without Russell - none of those hemmed in sequences that we're so familiar with. Because despite being our most offensively-utilized defenseman, he's the single player against whom play goes the other way at a rapid pace and it hurts everybody else. You look at how defensively Gio and Brodie are used and it's almost unmatched by any other top pair in the NHL because no other middle pair in the NHL has the play go against them so often. I like Kris Russell, but he needs to be our #5D just like Wideman does, and no they shouldn't be a pairing again. Ever. All four of our bottom defensemen - Russell, Wideman, Engelland, Smid are pretty decent individually but their fit, both with the top 3 and each other is holding the team back. Schlemko is the perfect fit with Hamilton, and I feel like I said this since the day we traded for Hamilton.
I'm not Cheerio, but I did agree with a lot of what he said about Schlemko. Schlemko is pretty good.

I was all geared up to make a response that made u look stupid, but I think you are right.
I don't know if it's schlemko I want, but I do agree that, after a good 2yrs, Russell isn't what we need right now.
He has some value, hopefully.
Before the draft I felt it was asking a lot for the Flames to find 2 top 4 d-men to be ready before this team was ready to compete for a cup. Adding Hamilton means that we need to find 1. And now I think we have many candidAtes!

His hockey iq is pretty low. He is big, uses his size, and can skate, but seems lost out there at times which leads to inconsistent play and prevents him from being an elite player in the NHL.
Most Ranger fans will tell you, he has been pretty bad this season for the Rangers. However, hockey iq aside, he is a decent enough winger for the Flames to take a chance on.
The Rangers have cap issues coming up with Kreider, Yandle, Hayes, Miller, Etem and Raanta needing new contracts, This could be another situation like where the Rangers ended up trading Hagelin for Etem.

Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Tikhonov (CHI) is on waivers today. That's a bit of a surprise.
Short term Jones replacement?
Flames were reportedly in the running for Tkhonov's services on July 1st

No. Hasn't shown much this year, I'd rather give one of our own guys a shot. Hamilton, Agostino, Shore, Arnold, one of these guys should get a call up if need be.
