Sounds like you need more "sympothy" and kindness in your life.

Yeah, I really do get it. And it's crap. We all deserve sympathy at some point in our lives. Seldom do any of us get it whenever we need it. Life's a bitch, that's just the way it is. It doesn't give anyone license to pick up a gun and shoot 20 people.

I think you are oversimplifying the problem. Just being nice to someone does go a long way, but if someone is at a point where they are angry at the world for whatever they perceive as injustice, asking them about their day or saying hello isn't going to do much to persaude them from violence.
Post shooting, we can maybe learn why they did it, but I doubt it will prevent these things from happening in the future.

I'm sick and tired of this "special snowflake" crap whereby the perpetuator becomes a victim. Because all it does is further victimise the real victims (oh, wait -- maybe they're the ones to blame).

Your right it is a very complex problem. But if the injustice they experienced was delt with and resolved or if they had help coming to terms with it, maybe they wouldn't have been pushed over the edge.
At the end of the day i think tring to prevent it from happening, even if it does not help, is better then sitting back and saying "lifes a bitch", so deal with it.

Just like American culture breeds higher amounts of crime, so too must something about the culture in Montreal breeding this type of crime.

I also remember 4 people getting killed at Concordia in 1992. At the same time I don't think this is just a Montreal thing and can happen anywhere.

At the end of the day, sure. We can all sit around a campfire with the emo bitches and sing koombaya. Give the bodies a chance to cool down first though, will you?

Eigther that or they are just mentally ill. Eigther way we need to help them to prevent more innocent people from being murdered.

So those are the only two reasons why people do this?
1. Injustice in their lives
2. Mental illness
Pretty short list if you ask me.

You still haven't suggested a way in which that could be done. Just being nice to people isn't going to cut it.

Exactly until I hear some concrete, practical ideas for what these solutions are its all just bafflegab.

They have a really good anti-bully campaign working through the country already. From what I've seen, it's about as effective as you could imagine. But there are no resources to ensure that this campaign is able to transcend all schools throughout the country, and fix every problem that leads to this tragedy.
More can be done, but this tragedy cannot be kept from replaying in the future, regardless of how many resources we throw at it. It just can't.

Even so...that is the excuse that most people are going to use. Rather then accepting that sickos like this exist, AND we can't do anything about them, they'll rather come up with excuses.
Pretty pathetic, IMO.

Life is a bitch, and you do have to deal with it. Life is not fair. (Ever seen the MTV show Sweet 16?... i digress).
You just have to hope one day you don't go to school and be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Just out of curiousity, has there been any links between the shooter and the school?
I remember reading earlier in the thread that he's 25. I'm guessing he wouldn't be a current student (maybe alumni?) if I understand the whole Quebec grade 13 thing.

It was at a college. (although i have heard it was for 16-19yr olds)
But some students looked well over 19.

My bad...I meant college. Someone compared it to Chinook Centre (which I have no idea what it is...just using it as a reference) here in Calgary, kind of like a pre-college prep school.
Your right though, looking at some of those pictures there are some people that look older than 19.

Montreal La Presse is reporting the gunman to be 25-year-old Kimveer Gill of Laval.
Montreal Gazette has identified the victim as being 18 year old Anastasia DeSouza of Montreal

I agree 100%. **** the suspect being portrayed a victim. I don't give a rat's a*s if you have a hard life, etc. If you commit murder, i'm sorry I hope you go straight to h*ll.
