Columbus should re-locate to Edmonton, they're looking for an NHL team with the new arena they are building.

Ryan Murray has more potential than anyone else in that trade. I would give Wideman, Backlund, Kylington, 2nd and a Tort piece like Jooris for Murray and AHL garbage, leave NYI out of it, and CBJ still says no.

A big fat "no thanks" to trading either Kylington or Andersson.
At least IMO.

It's been discussed before, but the Flyers are in trouble. Giroux and Vorachek have been split up, and still the only line producing are read-couturier-simmonds.
The two roster players potentially in play are the schenns. All others are either building blocks or fourth liners at best. They do have intriguing prospects at centre and defence.
A trade involving roster players headed to Philly in return for salary and an 'a' prospect isn't out of the question.
Lots of pressure over there.

Was there not talk of Murray not being happy in Columbus? That's why I was thinking gim over Savard to NYI.
And NYI takes Wideman to get Murray.
Cbj takes Backlund to make it easier to handle the hole that Johanson could potentially leave in a deal. Not saying Backlund is as good. But he's a dependable center in his own end with a bit of skill and size. They get stud D prospect and a decent pick.
Flames get that guy to round out their top 4. If Hamonic was to come in, it would be a long while before any of the D prospects really got a shot.

A big fat "Yes" to trading Anderson or Kylington to get Hamonic, especially if all we are giving up along with one of them is Wideman, Backlund and a 2nd.
Not sure why the Islanders or Colombus make those deals as they are both worse after that deal, Colombus especially.

I'd take Murray over Hamonic, for the Flames... though, my opinion is an uneducated one, as I haven't watched either player enough... I'm still a fan of Murray from his draft year.

Where is this sudden surge of love for a guy most haven't heard of previously - Hamonic? Every year there's a lovefest for a mediocre stay at home defenceman. This year that guy is Hamonic.

Sounds like you haven't heard of him. He's far better than a mediocre stay at home defenceman.

I would love to see the Flames do some kind of deal with the Islanders. Considering the Isles have a couple premium players coming up for UFA but still have Tavares and Nelson on pretty good contracts they might be willing to make a trade that gives them a chance at a run this year and for the next couple years.
I would see what type of interest they would have in the following
Giordano, Russell and Backlund
for
Hamonic and Strome.
Isles would have on the backend
Boychuk - Leddy
Giordano - Zidlicky
Russell - Hickey or De Haan
That would be a pretty solid defence, with Tavares, Okposo, Nielsen, Nelson, Bailey, Lee as their top 6 forwards. Backlund would be a pretty good 3rd or 4th line center.
Flames could build around Brodie, Hamilton, Hamonic on the backend, Strome adds another skilled forward in the same age range as Monahan, Gaudreau and Bennett with likely another stud forward piece coming into the system through the draft this year. Throw on the hope that Gillies pans out and the possibility that one of Jankowski, Klimchuk or Poirier turn into top 6 forwards and the Flames have a pretty solid group to build around longterm.

That mediocre defenseman is leading the isles in minutes/game.

Hamonic is an exceptional defenseman on a very team friendly contract. To get a player like that you need some of your own players playing well so you can sell high on them. Those are in short supply for the Flames right now.
About the only important Flames playing to or exceeding their contract are Johhny, Bennett, Brodie and Monahan. I don't see any of them being moved.

Hamonic wants to go to one of 3 teams or so. The flames need to get him without giving up Bennett, Johnny, Monahan, Brodie, Hamilton or their first rounder. If any combination of other things we have can get him, do it.

You realize Milbury is no longer the isles GM?
Snow would not touch that deal. Gio is on the wrong side of 30, battling injuries and locked into a very big contract. Tavares is due his new contract in 2016.
And the isles center depth is :Tavares, Frans Nielsen, Strome, Grabovski, Cizikas, Brock Nekson, Barzal. They would not have interest in Backlund either.

Yeah, hamonic could be the big shakeup the team needs. And its young players coming back which fits the rebuild template.
It might require the Flames 1st pick in 2016. Do you risk it? What if they took a bad contract back?
Id say yes, unless the Flames win the lottery so its a calculated risk.
