Fedorov played defence for a 10-15 game stretch with the Wings and Larry Murphy.
How does that even come into play in a comment on the fact that he did not generally face the top defensive assignments for a decent portion of the other 1200+ NHL games he played?

I don't understand how playing behind Stevie Y means you're getting sheltered minutes.
Was everyone on Detroit not on the first line receiving sheltered minutes or just Federov?

I wonder if puck #484 goes to the Russian sports/hockey hall of fame (I assume they have one), the Toronto HHOF, or if Ovi keeps it?
The plot thickens.

Fedorov was a first line player on 99% of the other teams in the league and would have been drawing the top defensive assignment night in and night out. Playing on a stacked team in Detroit, made that so it wasn't a reality for him until he went to Anaheim.
I'm not saying he wasn't a great player, but Ovechkin didn't have that luxury. Night in and night out, he's 100% the focus of the other team. I'm not sure Fedorov would have been so successful had he been in that position.

Trottier is 16th and was a really good two way player. 5th place Ron Francis was pretty good (Selke winner).

Ovechkin didn't show much respect when he was in Calgary this year, coming onto the ice after intermission and skating into the Flames zone pretending to deke and shoot on Ramo. I have never seen that happen in all my years of watching hockey.
Unsportsmanlike and showed a serious lack of class. Lost a lot of respect for him after that.
Still pissed off that a Flame didn't feed him his teeth.

He did the identical thing in Vancouver. I found myself at that game and paid special attention to see if he would do it. And he did. And no one did jack about it.
Turns out there actually is a penalty for that clearly stated in the rules.

Perhaps in the minority here but Bossy is the best and purest goal scorer I have seen .
Incredibly quick release and his mind's eye almost always had the puck hitting the open space.

Anybody that watched Mike Bossy play certainly wouldn't put up much of an argument.
The guy was unreal. 9 straight years of 50+ goals. I still remember the front of the hockey news when he did it in his 9th year.
If not for his bad back which forced him to retire at the age of 30, who knows where he would have ended up all time.
573 goals in 752 games. His .762 goals a game leads the NHL history books.
Ovechkins 484 in 777 is very impressive indeed, especially playing in this era. His .623 goals a game is good for 5th in NHL history at this point.

Sure he did, in his Hart + Selke 1 + Pearson winning season in 93-94. Finished 3rd in goal scoring behind Bure and Hull with 56 to their 60 each, and 2nd in overall scoring with 120 points. I remember it largely because I collected, like, all the McDonald's hockey cards that year for some reason.
Frankly, Fedorov's totals are pretty impressive as a large part of his career was in the dead puck era and he was consistently a 2nd line center behind Yzerman, splitting ice time and PP ice time with other big stars.

Gretzky outscored Bossy in goals in almost every year of Bossy’s career.

Yeah, it's sort of how people seem to misinterpret the fact that when Lemieux first retired he had a higher PPG than Gretzky as some sort of argument that had he stayed healthy he would have beat his records. Gretzky's PPG fell the last half of his career each year, but at any stage of their respective careers Gretzky had been outscoring Lemieux by a decent margin. Regardless of how you feel about them as players (i.e. who's better), there's no real argument to say that Lemieux would have matched Gretzky's point totals.
Anyways, for their first 10 seasons in the NHL (regardless of age):
Gretzky: 0.82 goals per game
Lemieux: 0.82 goals per game
Bossy: 0.76 goals per game
Hull: 0.74 goals per game
Bure: 0.65 goals per game
Kurri: 063 goals per game
Ovechkin: 0.63 goals per game

If you can lose respect for someone who has done as much as Ovi over something like that then I assume you have lost respect for a ton of players in this league.
Players shooting a puck at the other net once most of the other team has left the ice or players (Ferland) skating close enough to the red line as they circle in practice to bump another player happens quite often.
Someone on the flames should have done something about it but at the end of the day, that is Ovis personality. He wasn't harming anyone and was perhaps getting under the skin of the flames. Who knows, maybe he did something similar when he set another record and was superstitious.
Interestingly enough, at the lunch with Burke today he mentioned his favorite player in the league is Crosby and only 1 other player was brought into the conversation for what he has done for the game - Ovechkin.

He was a fantastic player for sure but I don't consider him a pure goal scorer in the same mold as Ovechkin, Hull, Bossy, etc. Better overall player but not a more pure goal scorer.
