Why do people want to trade Giordano? For Duchene? I don't get it. Because Gio had a poor start? The whole team did just about. Do we think that's who Gio is now?

If he wants a Dman, forward and a pick he is not getting anything more than a top 4D, 2nd rounder and a decent forward. Duchene is not worth a 1-2 Dman unless it is a 1 for 1 trade.
Maybe Fowler+Cogliano for Duchene?

Sure, but i doubt Sakic wants a ufa d-man , and a 3rd line center in return.

I don't think Gio is what he is now. He is going to be better. That said, i do the trade of Gio for Duchene in a second. I really like Duchene's game and see him as a comparable to Bennett. Throw in the age factor and it would be a great trade for the flames.

I think the Avs would be less likely to trade a 24 year old for a 32 year old than they would to take a bigger package of younger players and picks.
The offer I did suggest earlier was Backlund, Russell, Porier, Culkin.
Culkin is a former Roy player from junior he thinks highly of. Porier is a good prospect, Backlund slides to the #3C behind Mackinnon and Soderberg. Russell is someone they keep or flip again at the deadline but he fits on their second pair.
Avs are also a team that struggles with possession and Backlund is a possession driving player

I think Sakic and Roy probably learned their lesson when they traded ROR for quantity over quality. I think they go for a high quality young defenceman as the main piece if they trade Duchene.

What options do you think are out there?
Seth Jones?
Cam Fowler?
Erik Gudbransen?
Jake Gardiner?
I don't see teams trading really good Dmen for a player that might get you 70pts but might also only get 50

I'm pretty sure the only dman on the Flames that the Avs are interested in if they were dangling Duchene is Brodie. If it's not Brodie from the Flames, the Avs have better options with other teams. Heck, I'd try to pry one of Josi or Jones from Nashville instead.

I don't think Gudbransen and Gardiner are really that great. Jones might be too good. Out of those, I'd say Fowler makes the most sense. Maybe Ellis on Nashville.

Hmm Brayden Schenn is scratched for Philly today. No one is sure why (although could be an injury).
edit:
Sam Carchidi @BroadStBull
Hakstol not happy with B. Schenn's play recently. Simple as that.

Brodie for Duchene is interesting. I agree he is the only Flame d man that would interest them.
The way the Flames have spent money on their blue, like with Gio and Hamilton, that is the kind of trade they "should" consider. Problem is, its looking like Brodie is our best defenseman and I don't know how you can trade that away.
We should have a surplus of riches on the blueline. Just doesn't look that way on the ice right now.

No way to trading Brodie. He's the now and the future leader on our blue line.

Gaudreau
Monahan
Bennett
Brodie
Hamilton
Giordano
I would be beyond shocked if BT traded any of the above players.

I agree with this. The above 6 players are the core of this team and likely would never seriously be considered in a trade scenario.
Duchene would be a fantastic add to that core as it really would allow the Flames to build 2 high end scoring lines. From most people's opinion we can't get him without compromising the core.

So I bring up targeting Voracek a week ago, got flamed...
got on board with with targeting Johanson, even though Hudler was involved in the deal i thought of, got flamed..
But guys are all over the aiming for Duchene? So confused...
Personally, we have a much better chance of getting Voracek or Johanson over Duchene and have what CBJ or Philly are looking for more than the Avs..

Friendly reminder folks. This isn't NHL 16 and we straight up have no clue what teams want or will get for player X or player Y. Reference the Dougie Hamilton trade.
Reference a lot of trades actually.
Saying Duchene will only move for Jones/Brodie/star spangled unicorn meat is a very narrow minded way of thinking.
Be a little more open minded. Our perception on reality is not the reality of NHL GM's as much as we want or hope it to be.

^Disagree. Duchene will get moved before Johansen or Voracek will. Neither are in trade rumours.
People are forgetting the fact Duchene is in his 7th NHL season. Hasn't really lived up to the hype he got pre-draft. Avs, as a team haven't done much in his tenure, so a change could be upcoming.

Voracek - Horribly long and expensive contract.
Johanson - If you can get it done without sacrificing the core or our 1st, then sure. Very unlikely however.
