I think Bennett has been getting better so I'm not sure what sitting him would do. Hamilton on the other hand has been a train wreck. I wouldn't be opposed to sitting him out for a game. He's still young though, so I'm sure he'll get better over time.

I could see Hartley sitting him out tonight. He just hasn't been that good at all. Give Nakladal a chance to play.
 I wouldn't mind seeing this:

 Gio-Wideman
 Russell-Engelland
 Smid-Nakladal

Give it a shot. Obviously I would rather have Brodie in,
then I would want to see this:

 Gio-Brodie
 Wideman-Russell
 Nakladal-Smid

Engelland can sit this one out and then draw back in for the next game for Smid or Nakladal, depending on who played better.

Come on Hartley, mix it up tonight.

Some of the more veteran forwards like Backlund, Frolik, Stajan and Jones better start to dig in and provide some offensive support to this team! We need offensive threats beyond the first line.
Looking forward to seeing Ortio between the pipes. He is coming into a more pressure packed situation perhaps than what Treliving wanted, but the best goalies revel in the pressure!

Still all the same problems that have been there since day 1. Soft goaltending, check. Inept offense, check. Inept PP, check. Bad defensive coverage, check.

According to war on ice, the Flames had 24 scoring chances.

Not sure what to say about your comment that the Rangers not being a strong Corsi team means that "looking good against them doesn't mean a thing". Some folks have the Rangers winning the cup this year |

I really hope this team rallying around their new starter is the feel good story of the season.

Zone time. Lots of play in their zone that generates nothing, where they capitalize on rebounds or giveaways to come the other way. That's how they win. And sure, they are a threat for the cup.

I think the time away made him hungrier. Good to see him contribute positively to the team again.

I think it had something to do with the fact that head was being held onto his neck by a thread.

The problem was, he was paired with Deryk Engelland. That was a dumb pairing and yet Hartley stuck with it.

Smid does well when he has a defensive partner who can make the breakout pass. He can do everything else well, but he does tend to rely on his partner to intiate the breakout - not a bad thing as long as you pair him with someone capable like Hamilton or Russell

This and this.

Smid and Engelland cannot be paired together, they both have the exact same weaknesses and cannot move the puck at all.

Pair them with a good puck mover and both look infinitely better.

Jones is tied for the team lead in goals, but I appreciate the sentiment all the same. Goals from anyone other than the first line or Giordano would feel like the floodgates bursting open at this point.

They have to be closing in on worst start in franchise history. Another loss and the chances of making the playoffs really starts to look daunting.

Crazy to me that Jones has 3 goals but leads the Flames forwards with his -6.

It's been a crazy, wonky, uncharacteristic start for this team. I'm not sure why they haven't come together yet, but they will come together and shake off the summer cobwebs.

We'll see a decent stretch over the next ten games here and we'll be right back in the playoff conversation.

We have to go about 19 games over .500 over the last 74 games to have a good chance at making the playoffs. Something like 43-24-7.

Can't wait to see how Ortio does. The problems run deeper than goaltending but if he plays well it could be a huge step in the right direction.

Maybe with Ortio starting it will get the Flames going like we know they can!

95/96 flames went 0-10 I believe and they ended up making the playoffs to boot. Number 10 returning for them had something to do with that though.
