Starting to think that the puck possession pundits are right. How can you have 4 powerplays in the 1st, and still get outshot so badly. It wasn't just the 2nd period that was a stinker. The first period was just as bad. The only thing that didn't reflect that was the score.
Honestly watching the game, there was a missed shot every frigging minute. I couldn't even keep up with how many bad angle shots were missing and resulting in the puck ricocheting out of the zone. Instantly killed momentum anytime the Flames had decent zone time.
Backland is the new Raymond. In fact when has Backland ever been a guy that you looked too in any situation?? Don't get it, just don't get it. Earned not given. I agree if Granland would have been given Backlands ice time last couple of years can you imagine how good he would have been. Time for Mikey to sit his butt in press bax 3-4 games minimum.

The Flames just entered year 3 of a rebuild. Our window to contend isn't close to being open just yet. There will be growing pains. Also we seem to start every season slow.
What does that really mean anyway? The team is close to the salary cap, the roster is very similar to last years, and has several important players over 30. The cap situation in a year is about to be as tight as its been since Darryl's tenure, with incoming raises to Gaudreau, Monahan and Giordano. Murray Edwards and co will expect a playoff team at minimum with their financial commitments.

He's struggling right now, but normally Backlund is the best defensive forward on the team. Get outta here.

If we were still in rebuild mode we would be trading the better of Ramo/Hiller, not the one who is least likely to be able to carry this team into the playoffs.
Rebuild excuse is out the window. We are trying to improve to win in the near term.
Who knows? Could be Hiller or Ramo again if he has a strong game. Only thing I remember hearing/reading from Hartley is that Ortio is 3rd string.
Why would Hartley start Ortio? It's not his job to make sure Ortio gets playing time so he doesnt get rusty. It's Hartley's job to win hockey games.
If I am Bob, I roll with Hiller & Ramo. It's up to Brad to find icetime for Ortio. Whether that means trading Hiller or Ramo, or sending Ortio to the AHL (hopefully clearing), that again is not up to Bob.
Bob plays the best players available to him. Ramo & Hiller are better (in Bob's eyes) than Ortio is.

Just for the record, it's the people complaining about the "misuse" of literally that are literally misusing the word. It's meaning was set long before any of us had been born.
