Man - the Sven trade broke CP, and probably never gets beaten, but this thread is putting up a good show.

That wasn't an intended dig at Flames management, it is a compliment toward the Habs. There was no more room here for him, though I am sure Hartley and management are sad to see him out of the system.

Very sad to see him go - he epitomized the Flames' work ethic and never-say-die attitude.
As EE said, missed breakaways are not a negative, they are a positive. And one has to wonder if he wouldn't have cashed in a bit more if it weren't for his injury.
The bottom line is that he is an NHL player, and as such, it is a negative to lose him. But he is being replaced for the most part.
As for his PK, Frolik takes his spot.
As for LW and tenacity, Ferland takes his spot.
As for speed, a guy like that is going to be missed, but the team is among the fastest in the league, and all of Ferland, Bennett, Frolik, and Hamilton (all the additions) are very fast.
The one thing that remains to be seen is how much his character, drive and tenacity are missed. No one was able to stir the pot and generate energy when there wasn't any, like he could. Hopefully Bennett is that guy.
Good luck in Montreal. Hab fans are going to love him.

I would imagine the Habs needed another NHL ready winger with Kassian down for a while, this isn't surprising because of that. Obviously they don't have the depth that we have.
I am sad to see him go, I liked the guy, great character, sad to see him go. I think the whole team feels that way but with guys like Bennett and Ferland coming in, it was inevitable that we would start to lose good guys. This includes Grats in the summer.

I'm pretty sad about this.. I Would WAYYYYY rather have Byron than Raymond on this team.
I imagine if Montreal waives him again, Calgary would claim him back..

Man I dont get why everyone is so bent out of shape here... Slightly less enthused for the season because Byron is gone??
We added Frolik and Hamilton already this offseason, we have a full year of Ferland and Bennett coming to go along with all the other guys like Gio, Mony, Johnny, Huds and on and on. Plus a still deep, deep prospect pool filled with guys like Granlund, Klimchuk, Poirier, Janko and on and on.
Im gonna miss Paully too but I actually think this is the best thing that could have happened for him. Wish him the best like he did for the Flames and then move on.
Tomorrow cant start soon enough!

Judging by the reaction here you would think it was Jason Morgan who got claimed.

I'm pretty sure Ferland is going to be that spark plug except with more skill. His speed may be missed but I'm not so sure. As pointed out, his spot on the PK will be replaced by Frolik which is a huge upgrade.
As sad as it is to see a guy go, it means that the team is better and that's what we all want. I do want to see him crush some people in the east though...I'd love to see him on the fore check against dion.

Taking a while to get to 5000

We haven't even seen outrage yet. Just wait until tomorrow night when Ferland is scratched and Raymond starts on the 3rd line.

Should be also mentioned that with Montreal taking Byron's contract, Flames are at 46 contracts

Hopefully it works out for Byron there, always liked him. Great jump to his game.
I'm not as sad as some to see him gone. But it has less to do with missed breakaways than it does he just couldn't stay out of the trainer's room. Hopefully he can get over the oft-injured bug in Montreal

I think Paul Byron would have been awesome for 3on3. He is an NHL player though and doesn't deserve being in the ahl. I'm very happy for him. We simply can't have as many little guys as we do. Hudler gaudreau Russell are very good players and I am happy that we have Ferland taking his spot. I agree with heavy jack. People are making too much of this, we have a lot to look forward to. The fact we needed to expose a layer like Byron to waivers shows how good our forward depth is. Now I just can't wait until Raymond is assigned to Stockton or traded and we have granlund up here.
It's going to be the most exciting season I can remember as a flames fan. I'm buzzing and can't wait until tomorrow. I think people should focus on the fact we have added Ferland bennett frolik Hamilton kulak and Ortio to our opening day roster. Ortio is going to get a serious look in the NHL. We have Brodie coming back soon and maybe kulak plays well enough to force a player like engelland to be moved. There are a lot of interesting plots developing.
Good luck to Paul Byron I hope he becomes a hero in Montreal.

He can miss and miss and miss and it's endearing but in the long run he's still missing the net and not contributing. Obviously the Flames staff agree with me.

I like Byron but I can't say I'm upset about this. The guy just got passed over by other players and hopefully gets more of an opportunity in Montreal.

He doesn't (...didn't... )miss the net though. He gets it on the opposing goalies shinpads for a rebound or their chest for an offensive zone faceoff even if he's not scoring a goal.

A bellwether moment in time. It was the day CP came of age.

You have to see polak's point here. Sure, he got lots of breakaways but he didn't score and although he did contribute to the team's success last season, it didn't end the way the team wanted it to.
The guy isn't bad or a terrible player but having him on the team wasn't going to improve the team. BT and the rest of management want this to be a championship team. Byron was good enough when this team wasn't deep but this team is deep now and Byron has been passed. The fact that this team can give away NHL players like this only means that this team is getting better.
No need to insult anyone for not liking a certain player.
