Sad to see Byron go. He was definitely one of the players that epitomized the Flames - never quit. Hope he gets lots of playing time on the Habs and does well (though I won't be cheering for the Habs). I bet he has a pretty decent season with them.

Honestly, I was surprised he was re-signed in the off season. It's not that I don't like him but I thought he was passed on the depth chart by younger players. Once Ferland cemented his position on the team you knew Byron would be pushed out. Feel for the guy, great kid, decent hockey player that I think will do well in Montreal.
People had to go and Byron and Raymond was who I had pegged to leave from last years team.

The exact same thing as a missed shot over no shot. One you have a chance to score the other no chance.

I would like to also add that it helped to keep the other team's defencemen from cheating too much, especially while they were pressing for a goal.
I think he would have been an asset on the 3on3s as well - crazy fast and responsible player out there.

Got to be such a weird feeling leaving a team like that. Stuff like this shows you how close everyone is.
The fans will miss you too Paul, even if all they know about you is that your "that little guy that gets breakaways".
Spullll must be an inside joke?

Losing Byron, I believe the heart and soul of the Flames is a little bit weaker today.
I am a slightly less enthused, and hopeful for the Flames this year, as one of my favourite players is missing.
To think he was probably only a couple of breakaway goals away from cashing in here, is heartbreaking. Oh, well, maybe they will come with a different team.
I wish him all the best

A note from Paul Byron to the group. His nickname is Spull which stands for Small Paul. @NHLFlames

While that note hits home, I don't see how its any different than leaving a job? Unless I guess you don't build any relationships at work.

Do you move across the country every time you leave a job?

Good luck Paul Byron. Fare thee well.
Raymond is a Black Ace. Along with Granlund now. Let's get this show on the road already.

At least Byron is going to a good team with smart management that can see beyond the height stat in the program and see the player.

Im actually glad the habs picked him up, he deserves a shot at a full time spot in the NHL and Montreal can hopefully give him that.
He was going to be phased out of the lineup with Ferland, Bennett making the team and Granlund in the wings.

Yea, I'm sure they waived him just because of his height. Nothing to do with the fact that there are better players that deserve a spot more.
