The problem is that for all these parties they have staffers, candidates or whoever that has made social media comments or videos that are questionable. That's why other than a few jabs about the guy peeing, very little was said. They're all vulnerable, and all could be next.

Apologizing for not deleting them before they were seen and reported on.

Unless I am crazy, I can only find the one tweet that was in the article and while hateful is accurate, not sure where you get bigoted from.
The catholic church prides its self on its misogyny and homophobia. Thankfully we have that whole issue of rampant child molestation that has permeated the church for who knows how long to totally discredit these views. So the guy isn't wrong.
That said, as has been said you would think there would be some better vetting of social media at this point. I don't think he's wrong, but the way the message is conveyed is pretty terrible.

His comments were offensive, but I get it. He is a gay man that was offended by the comments Pope Benedict made (and I agree that they were also offensive). It was still juvenile of him to respond the way he did and we should expect more from people running for public office. I am sure if he wins, some of his constituents will be Catholics.
His apology is hollow unless he steps out of the race. It's another case of "sorry, I was caught".
As a side note, how are politicians so dumb as to not think of these things before they run for office?

I don't think I need to link their dislike for the gays. Ask most homosexuals how that "Hate the sin, not the person" thing usually goes.
Not saying any other Abrahamic religion is any better.

He isn't running for office, he's the NDP director of communications.

Yup. The Liberals and NDP don't really have much in the way of legs to stand on given both have already punted candidates themselves.
This is how it is now, and how it will be in the future: your past is out there for all to see. Get used to it.
As far as the NDP staffer goes, it is hard to criticize his views of Benedict. But yeah, don't stand there and say that the views you express are not reflective of your own views. The second you say that, you admit your apology is not sincere.

While I'm not sure that "prides" is the best term to use it's hard to argue that the Vatican's position towards women and homosexuals has historically been anything but hostile/repressive. Pope Francis seems like a cool cat (as far as Popes go) but Benedict was of the more typical breed (and as the first Pope to have his tenure take place in the era of social media he was destined to take the brunt of the blowback to those positions).
That said there are certain ways to approach things and obscenities on social media are... ill advised... regardless of whether you have a public position of employment or not.

Interesting how it works though.
Because I don't disagree at all, but (as was said previously) change Catholic Church/Pope to Islam, who hold similar or even stronger views on the subject in question - and statements like that would cause... well I don't even know what exactly, but certainly a different reaction from media and various political/interest groups.

The overwhelming sentiment in the media at the moment it seems to be that the conservative campaign is cratering. While it may be, it's way too early to count them out and I expect that this to trigger an us versus them response.

The CPC message that appears to be coming from their ads this election campaign has truly been dreadful. It's almost concessionary in tone, like they fully expect to lose but are just hoping people are afraid enough of Mulcair or Trudeau to vote CPC by default. I get that they really have nothing substantive to run on besides they'll be the toughest on ISIS, but the tone just strikes me as a party who doesn't think it can win.
Playing the "us versus them" card right now is unlikely to work, especially with the exceptionally poor quality of the current CPC attack ads. At this point they basically need Mulcair AND Trudeau to implode to have a chance to win. And Mulcair and Trudeau both know the CPC can at best get a minority without imploding. I just don't see a path to winning for the CPC. And anything less than a majority is losing.

Harper apparently just sent his campaign manager "back to Ottawa" to try and change direction a little.
I hope he implodes now.

Agreed, the optics of that couldn't be much worse. The pass he gets from Angry Beard essentially tells everyone that it's a stance they do not find objectionable. At least not enough to can the guy.
If social media is your bag, best bet is to self filter as these things simply do not dissapear. That and don't pee in mugs.

Hillbilly whisperer? Like, she tames the wild inbred? Or she whispers in soft Appalachian tones?

By that definition then yes they are going to "lose". I do see a path to them winning a minority... it basically involves going after both Mulclair and Trudeau (with an emphasis on whomever is in first at the moment) so as to keep the race between them effectively a deadlock (and prevent the progressive vote from rallying behind any one of them) then use their preceived advantage in vote efficiency (possible) and GOTV operation (probable) to sneak out a victory.
That's a "no margin for error" path to victory but I think it's possible.
